Naruto
It’s been a while since Naruto had last talked like this with the other Akatsuki members. After everything that had happened right after Sasuke had arrived, it wasn’t that surprising he hadn’t found the time to contact the others.
Still the same Akatsuki as ever.
“OI! WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO??” Deidara’s voice carries loudly through the crystal on the necklace. “WHY DID YOU DISAPPEAR FROM THIS LINE??”
Naruto shrinks away from the device, holding it as far away from his face as he could, covering his other ear with his free hand.
Sasuke had to turn his face away to avoid laughing at the exchange.
“I’m sure he had his reasons, Deidara.” Konan sighed. “Let’s just hear what he has to say — ”
Naruto reluctantly brought the crystal closer to his mouth. “Sorry, Sasuke and I had been having some… uhm, revelations about some history. It’s sort of complicated. Too much to explain over the crystal, so I’ll tell you guys when we meet up again.”
“YOU BETTER!” Deidara fumes, The connection immediately cuts off after the words are said, and Naruto also couldn’t hold back his laugh.
Sasuke only watched impassively at the exchange between the members.
”You know, I don’t think I can ever understand why you put up with that idiot.” Sasuke commented. “I think I would have lost it at him a long time ago…”
Naruto smiled brightly. “Deidara is Deidara! And he’s part of the Akatsuki now, so he’s like family to me!”
”Hm.”
Naruto’s loud cackles ring in the air as the pair of them leave the mountain they’d been using as a base.

Not long after the pair started heading back towards the main Akatsuki base, the crystal lit up again. This time, it was Tobi.
”Hii!! Are you there, Naruto?” Tobi exclaimed, voice that sounded carefree. Naruto could hear the slight strain in the older man's voice.
”Yeah, what’s up?” Naruto replied, and Sasuke gave him a curious side glance.
Tobi’s voice sounded through after a couple of seconds of silence, “I haven’t been able to find any trace of Zetsu so far. I’ve told the other members to look out for traces of him, but they don’t seem worried at all about him. Not as much as you do, at least.” An audible sigh came from the other side of the crystal.
Naruto grumbled, “Yeah, well. It’s still very on brand for him to just up and disappear like this. Hell, I probably wouldn’t have cared at all if it weren’t for the strange timing.”
Sasuke frowned. “Are you talking about how we discovered the Uchiha Tablet’s story?”
Naruto nodded, “Yeah, partly. It’s just…” Naruto paused, face falling into a frown. “I just have a bad feeling right now.”
Tobi seemed to perk up with interest. “Oh yeah? How so?”
Naruto slowed down his run, and Sasuke followed suit. Naruto glanced up at the sky, bathed in the color of the incoming sunset.
“I dunno, it just feels like a storm is coming.”
