"And even though your friends tell me you're doing fine
Are you somewhere feeling lonely
Even though he's right beside you
When he says those words that hurt you
Do you read the ones I wrote you"

{ this is set wayyyy before the bonfire chapter }

I hadn't seen Bea in three months.

Not since her dick of a boyfriend, James, had insisted that she doesn't see me anymore.

It sounds over dramatic, but it literally felt as if my heart had been torn to shreds.

I'd known her since I was three, and we'd been best friends since. That asshole had no right to just steal her away from me.

Occasionally I'd get texts from her friends telling me that everything was fine and she was perfectly happy with James, although I highly doubted that this was true.

Until that one night, when I knew for certain how she felt.

I was on my laptop on my bed, listening to sad songs and generally feeling like sh*t. Suddenly, I heard my phone go off from beside me, and saw Bea's name on the caller ID.

I grabbed it straight away, swiping the screen and nearly dropping the phone in the process.

"Bea! I missed you so much, how's everything?"

I heard sniffles and shaky breaths coming from her end of the phone and she wasn't replying.

"Boo?" I called her by her nickname, hoping she'd answer.

I heard a faint whisper. "C-Cole..."

I immediately sat up off my bed, realising something was definitely wrong.

"Oh god. What's happened? Is it James? I swear to god I'm going to murder him-"

"Cole. Don't." She said, her voice hoarse from crying.

"Tell me everything."

"But-"

"Everything. Start to finish."

James had called her a slut, a whore, literally every awful word I can think of, and threatened to hit her, just because she was asking if she could see me soon.

It killed me to know I was basically the reason she was crying in her room at 2:30 in the morning.

He had also accused her of cheating on him with me, even though he knew for a fact that she hadn't seen me in months, and shouted and screamed so loudly at her that the neighbours complained.

When she was in the middle of explaining, suddenly the call cut off.

"Bea? Bea, are you okay?"

I was panicking. She wouldn't ever hang up on me.

I tried calling another 16 times, but every time it went to answer machine.

Then, I just burst in to tears, worrying about her. I couldn't go to her house, James would be there and the second I showed up he would know that Bea had been contacting me.

I spent the rest of that night texting her, poems and sweet things, reminding her that she's beautiful, not anything James had called her. She never replied, and I fell asleep with my phone in my hands and tears staining my cheeks.

Little did I know, James had hidden her phone and cut the phone lines so she couldn't make contact with anyone else.
