I was on the couch, mindlessly scrolling through my phone.

Gabe and Dana were round but I couldn't concentrate on their conversation when so much was going on in my mind, so I was just 'on my phone'.

I couldn't get over how upset Bea looked when she insisted that she was fine. I knew for a fact that she wasn't.

That dick James was doing something, and I needed to keep her safe.

"Dude?" I heard Gabe and I looked up.

"Yeah?"

"I've literally said dude like three times. Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, everything's fine."

"You sure?" Asked Dana.

"Yeah, yeah."

"It literally feels like you're not around half the time we hang out. Something has to be up."

Dana suddenly looked concerned, and quietly whispered:

"Is it a girl?"

Gabe heard and whispered something else, which was stupid because we were the only ones in the house.

"Bea?"

Only these guys knew about my feelings for my best friend, and the sound of her name made my heart ache.

"No, she's fine, I'm fine, everything is fine. Could we please drop it now?"

"Yeah, sure, sorry man." Said Dana, going back to whatever was on the TV.

With that, I went into my camera roll and found the last picture I remember taking of Bea.

- flashback -

We were at her friend Avalon's party, and I'd not seen her as happy as she was on that night in a long time.

I'd known Avalon just as long as I'd known Bea, but me and Bea always had this connection that made us more close.

Avalon was dating Dana, so we always used to go on 'double dates', me and Bea acting like a corny couple and finding it hilarious because we weren't actually dating.

Her and Avalon were talking and I was stood on the stairs, a few steps above them, talking to Dana.

"Hey, guys!" I shouted at them over the music, pulling out my phone.

"Whaaattttttt?" Bea shouted, elongating the word and making me snigger.

"We need pictures for facebook. We need to make people jealous that they weren't here!" Said Dana, laughing.

"Laugh. Just laugh, like you would if I told you that when I was 5, I peed myself because I was scared of Barney the Dinosaur."

Avalon did a cute little chuckle, obviously trying to still look attractive because Dana was there.

But Bea, because she had nobody to look perfect for, let out this huge, bubbly laugh that brought a smile to my face.

I loved how she could just be so carefree and not care who saw her.

I quickly snapped the picture, and Bea was still dying of laughter.

"Oh my god...is that true?"

"Yep." I felt my cheeks get red.

"YOU PEED YOUR PANTS..." She couldn't continue to talk because she was laughing so much.

- present day -

I felt a wave of nostalgia come over me as I looked at that picture.

It was only three months ago, but it felt like three years since I'd even been able to talk to her without James threatening to kill me.

I sighed as I locked my phone.

If she wasn't happy with James, she would have told me straight away.

We told each other everything.

I could only come to one conclusion.

She had moved on, away from our friendship and away from me.
