Anne Mae's POV
Another night with a packed club. I hurriedly put my makeup on & sprayed my perfume on. I looked in the mirror to make sure everything is perfect. I heard my name being introduced. I walked towards the stage behind the red curtains. I said a quick prayer before the final applause. The curtains rolled up revealing a crowd full of people. The music begins to play making me pumped with joy.
When I was a little girl, I had a rag doll
Only doll I've ever owned
Now I love you just the way I loved that rag doll
But only now my love has grownI scanned the crowd to see familiar faces from the diamond club. I couldn't tell if they're businesspeople or a producer.
And it gets stronger in every way
And it gets deeper, let me say
And it gets higher day by dayI swirled around making my dress lifted up. I took the mic off the stand.
And do I love you, my oh my
Yeah, river deep, mountain high, yeah, yeah, yeah
If I lost you, would I cry
Oh, how I love you, baby, baby, baby, babyThe music calmed down a little. Resetting itself from the hyped. People were singing along with the lyrics.
When you were a young boy, did you have a puppy
That always followed you around?
Well, I'm gonna be as faithful as that puppy
No, I'll never let you downA strange presence made me shiver with coldness. A cryptic man walked in with shades covering his eyes. He sat near the bar ordering a drink.
It goes on and on like a river flows
And it gets sweeter, baby, and heaven knows
And it gets sweeter, baby, as it growsOnce he got his drink, he took a sip. He seemed uneased by the performance. Do my singing bore him? Hm, i'll fix that.
And do I love you, my oh my
Yeah, river deep, mountain high, yeah, yeah, yeah
If I lost you, would I cry
Oh, how I love you, baby, baby, baby, babyI rolled my curvy hips with the rhythm. Whipping my hair around making it messy. Tapping my foot to the beat.
I love you, baby, like a flower loves the spring
And I love you, baby, like a robin loves to sing
And I love you, baby, like a schoolboy loves his pet
And I love you, baby, river deep, mountain highI did a two-step with a spin receiving a thousands cheers. I smiled brightly.
Baby, baby, baby, yow
Do I love you, my oh my
Yeah, river deep, mountain high, yeah, yeah, yeah
If I lost you, would I cry
Oh, how I love you, baby, baby, baby, babyWithin that, he took off his shades. The music stopped finishing off the excitement. I rubbed my head in nervousness as I quickly walked off the stage. I ran in my dressing room & fell on my couch. I clutched my chest panting. My goodness, those eyes. They're beautiful.
-
I walked to the bar & sat down on the stool. I ordered a drink & looked towards the crowd. Everyone seemed to enjoyed the performance. I hope we made higher then yesterday.
"That was some performance, young thing."
I gripped onto the seat as he approached me. Dear god, they're even more beautiful up-close. I swallow the lump that was in my throat & managed to speak.
"Thank you" my drink was put beside me. I quickly drunk it hoping it would loosen me up a little.
"What's your name sweetie?" He asked.
My stomach tingled at his soft-spoken seductive voice. "Anne mae."
"Like the singer" he smiled. I felt my head getting light-headed.
"Tina was my mother's favorite singer."
"Your mother has good taste" he sat down beside me on the stool. His strong cologne burned my nostrils in a good way "you work here?"
"For five years."
"A experienced underrated star" he stated.
"I'm not a star yet. I haven't been signed to a label yet."
"Which label would you like to be signed too?" He asked curiously.
"I- um." Why can't I speak all of a suddenly? Does he have this effect on people?
He giggled lightly "its okay if you don't wanna tell me. I'll find out eventually."
I blushed at my embarrassment "sorry, I'm really nervous."
"About?" He questioned raising an eyebrow at me.
"Nothing."
He took a sip of his liquor & sighed "this club was the shit back in the day. I remember when I was eighteen, I use to come here after school & waited until it was time to open. I hid behind the drum player listening to the music. Especially the singer in general. Her name was "Diana Ross". She was the most gorgeous thing on world. That woman was on my mind 24/7. She had a voice like a angel. I had a crush on her for years. It was terrible when they dropped her from the act. I was devastated. But luckily she was signed to "Majesty Records".
I took a sip of my liquor listening to this fine man. "Have you ever been in a studio before?" He asked staring at me.
"No."
He grabbed my hand sending chills down my spine. I immediately looked into his eyes. Gazing upon his sparkling glow.
"Would you like to experience it?" He asked.
I smiled excitedly "really?"
"Do I have to ask again but with a little pleasure?" He said.
I giggled "yes."
-
He lead me down the long hallways. We past by tons of rooms full with equipment, & empty dance rooms. We approached a special door with a gold star on it. A well-written named "M.J." glowed in the light above it. He opened the door & turned on the light. I gasped in shock as I saw the marvelous room. A leather couch in the corner. A music equipment sitting neatly in front of the bullet-proof window. A mini bar beside the couch & a phone booth.
"This is wonderful! You owned this?"
"Yes, everything in this room is my own. Its my personal studio. I come here to relax & record my own sounds" he said.
"You make music?"
He gave me a weak smile "yes I do, ever since I was a kid."
I walked towards the equipment. I rubbed my fingers through the buttons & knobs. There are so many of them. I have no idea how to work them.
"What's your poison?" He asked.
"Hennessey."
I heard the desire liquor being poured in the glass. I looked through the mini window to see every instrument laid out. I felt a cold hand rested on my shoulder. I turned around to see him handing me the glass full with desire. I grabbed the glass from him & took a sip.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" He asked.
"I've always wanted to be in a studio. Record my own music & make money. But I really wanna make music to make people happy. I don't have the exact voice that people are looking for" I looked away.
"I think you have a voice of a grown confident woman & If that isn't enough for people then hell with them" he said gracefully.
I smiled "you really think so?"
"I know so anne mae" he said.
