Anne Mae's POV

"Diana, what is this about?" I received a call from Diana about an emergency. She told me to meet her at the studio in the back of the club.

"I need you to sing something for me."

"Sing what?"

"Sing what?"

She gave me some papers, it was full of lyrics. "Across 110th Street?"

"Yes, I need you to sing the whole thing."

"But diana, this song is about pimpes & thugs? I can't sing about this!"

"Listen honey, if you want to be in the music industry your gonna have to sing about things you don't want to sing about. Its business, don't you want the money?"

"Well yeah."

"Then sing damn song!"

I sighed & put my headphones on. I gave her the signal to start.

Ooo-ooo-oo...
Ooo-ooo-oo...

I was the third brother of five
Doing whatever I had to do to survive
I'm not saying what I did was alright
Trying to break out of the ghetto was a day to day fight

Been down so long, getting up didn't cross my mind
But I knew there was a better way of life that I was just trying to find
You don't know what you'll do until you're put under pressure
'Cross 110th Street is a hell of a tester

Across 110th Street
Pimps trying to catch a woman that's weak
Across 110th Street
Pushers won't let the junkie go free
Across 110th Street
Woman trying to catch a trick on the street
Across 110th Street
You can find it all in the street

Ooo-ooo-oo, oh
I got one more thing I'd like to talk to y'all about right now

Now, the way the studio is built. The inside of the booth window is tinted so she can't see me but i can see her. So when I saw Prince walk in the door, I was confused. He knows diana?

Hey brother, there's a better way out
Snorting that coke, shooting that dope, man you're copping out
Take my advice, it's either live or die
You've got to be strong if you want to survive

The family on the other side of town
Would catch hell without a ghetto around
In every city you find the same thing going down
Harlem is the capital of every ghetto town

I wondering what they're talking about. It seems deep & interesting like they've been talking since forever.

Across 110th Street
Pimps trying to catch a woman that's weak
Across 110th Street
Pushers won't let the junkie go free
Across 110th Street
A woman trying to catch a trick on the street, ooo baby
Across 110th Street
You can find it all in the street
Yes you can, oh

Look around you, just look around you
Look around you, look around you, uh, yeah
Ooo-oo-oo...

I took off the headphones & exit from the booth. As I was about to leave the studio, prince stopped me.

"Where are your going Anne mae? How about we do a duet together?"

"You want to do a duet with me?"

"Yeah" he handed me a wrinkle up folded up paper.

"U got the look?"

"Wanna do it?"

"Sure, why not!"

"Alright! Two hits in one day!" Diana squealed.

Here we are folks
The dream we all dream of
Boy versus girl in the World Series of love
Tell me, have you got the look

You walked in, I woke up
I never seen a pretty girl
Look so tough, baby
You got that look
Color you peach and black
Color me taken' aback
Crucial, I think I wantcha

You've got the look, you've got the hook
You sho'nuf do be cookin' in my book
Your face is jammin'
Your body's heck-a-slammin'
If love is good, let's get to rammin'
You got the look, you got the look

Look here

You got the look
You got the look
You must'a took
You must'a took
A whole hour just to make up your face, baby
Closin' time, ugly lights, everybody's inspected

The music stopped leaving us both confused.

"Diana whats wrong?"

"You two need to leave now!" She exclaimed.

"Why?"

"Yeah! What for? We just started" Prince whined.

"LEAVE NOW!" She shouted.

We immediately exited from the studio with confused expressions.

"What was that all about?"

"I have no idea."

"Speaking of which, how do you know diana?"

"The same way I know Michael."

"You didn't tell me you knew her too."

"Well, she use to work at the club before I owned it. She was very well-known. Now, she has her own club & has on her own career."

"Have you heard anything from the radio station?"

"Not yet."

I sighed "its taking too long."

"You have to be patience about this things. It takes time, anne."

"Okay."

"Talk to you later?"

"Yeah, sure."
