I hear faint mumbles of a voice getting louder. I can hear him but I can't see him. I try to open my eyes but it seems almost impossible. I push all of my energy into opening my eyelids. My eyes flutter open but close again due to the blinding brightness of white lights.
I squint my eyes and blink a few times, my eyes opening and closing with ease now. When my eyes have readjusted to the lighting I open my eyes once more to see people I do not recognize. They're lips are moving but no sound comes out. The panic in me must have shown on my face, the doctor walks over to the side of my bed , clears his throat and says "Do you know you're name?" I go through my head but there's nothing. I shake my head gentlely. A woman to my left gasps while placing a hand to her mouth and silently sobs. The doctor takes in a deep breath but is patient. "Do you know where you are?" I think, but again nothing comes to mind I open my mouth and croak "a place with men and women in white and blue?" The doctor takes off his glasses and rubs temple and heaves a sigh of slight frustration.
The doctor writes something down on a piece of paper. His voice scared me a little when he said "Ms. Jones, can I speak with you in the hallway for a moment" the woman beside me let's go of my hand and nods. She stands up wiping her tears and follows the doctor out into the hallway.
As I watch the doctors serious face mumbling something to the woman I just see her place her head in hands and fall to the floor, and for some reason, I want to comfort her.
After sending the woman somewhere the doctor returns with a file and takes a seat next to me. He opens it up and lifts up a piece of paper. After scanning though it he places the paper back down and looks up at me. Suddenly I feel scared.
"Hello, I haven't introduced myself. I am Dr. Holty," I want to say my name but I don't know it. "Your name is Addilyn Jones, you are 17 years of age and you have amnesia." I don't know what the word meant, but it doesn't seem good. "You have been in a car accident with your brother.." Subconsciously I hear myself say "I have a brother?" The doctor lets out a small laugh and replies "yes. His name is James, he is 22 and that woman in here before was your aunt." Again cutting the doctor off mid-sentence "what about my mother?" The doctor sighs and scratches the back of his neck "oh.." I say in almost a whisper.
The doctor gives me a symihetic smile. "If you need anything just give us a shout" he stands up "wait," the doctor turn around and waits for me to continue "when do I get to go home?" He laughs a lityle , opens the door revealing my aunt and I'm guessing my brother with hopeful looks on their faces "in a few days..." He says at last.
