It's still dark outside. Inside the house, it is a bit dim, with only the light from the kitchen illuminating that part of the house. Neo is seated by the dining table dressed in his predominantly black riding outfit. Taking a sip from his mug and reading the draft of his contract.

A light turns on from behind him.

Neo turns his head to see his mother, Pilar, approaching. Still wearing her nightclothes, Pilar takes a hair tie hanging on the raised leg of an old cat by the side table dividing the dining room from the living area.

Pilar: Oh, Neo, ba't ang aga mo?

She asks while tying her hair.

Neo: Magba-bike ako pa-Tagaytay, Ma. Kukuha akong video ng sunrise...

He explains himself before taking another sip of his warm drink.

Pilar looks closer at the mug Neo sets down onto the table.

Pilar: Magba-bike ka tapos Milo lang ang agahan mo?

She asks.

Pilar: Kumain ka muna —kahit tinapay.

She starts to walk away from the dining table

Pilar: Bili lang ako ng pan de sal saglit.

Neo grabs her by the arm.

Neo: Huwag na, Ma.

He stops her.

Neo: Mamaya na lang.

He smiles. She surrenders with a sigh.

She notices what Neo is reading on the table.

Pilar: Teka lang, 'nak. Pipirmahan mo na ba yan?

Neo notices the seriousness in his mother's tone while asking.

Neo: Ikaw po, Ma. Nagpa-paalam lang din naman ako.

Beat.

He responds without taking his eyes away from the paper.

She pulls out the dining chair next to Neo's and takes a seat.

Pilar: Nagpa-paalam? Ibig sabihin ba niyan, decided ka na?

She asks.

Neo: Wala naman siguro mawawala kung sumubok ako, Ma. Saka para maka-tulong na rin para kay Papa.

She takes his face by the chin and looks him in the eyes.

Pilar: Alam mo, Neo, ni sa hinuhap —di ko nga ina-asahang mag-uuwi ka ng ganito. Si Kurt pa siguro, pero ikaw? Mag-aartista?

Neo: Hindi ba bagay, Ma?

They chuckle.

Pilar: Eh napaka-mahiyain mo noong maliit ka.

She lets go of his chin.

Pilar: Na-alala mo ba yung Christmas program noong Grade One ka noong nag-Saint Joseph ka? Tatlo na nga lang line mo—

Neo: Nagka-bulol-bulol pa. Oo na po.

She takes a deep breath and sighs.

Pilar: Hindi mo naman kasi sana ina-alala yung sitwasyon natin kung hindi lang nangyari yung nangyari sa Papa mo— dapat nag-aaral ka pa rin— natapos mo yung course mo. Nasabihan ka pa namang anak ng teacher tapos—
