"I saw you talking to that boy next door", Kalea said as she sat at the dinner table, scooping up a fork of yellow rice. "A boy?", her seven-year-old sister Nina asked teasingly.

"Shut up", Leilani muttered to her before turning to her mother. "It was nothing. He was just saying hi".

"I hope so", Roberto muttered.

"Are you talking about that weird kid that would walk around with no shoes on?", asked her 15-year-old brother Noa.

"Yes and he's not weird", replied Leilani.

"Well, at least you've made a friend", said Keala.

Even though Leilani had been talking to Stanley, she hadn't stepped foot in his house yet. Once she climbed the porch steps, she knocked on the door only for it to be answered by a man with a scruffy beard, a flannel, and a can of beer in his hand, presumably Stanley's dad. "Hi, is Stanley home?", she asked.

"Yeah, who are you?", he asked.

"I'm Leilani. I just moved next door"

"Oh", he took a sip of his beer.

Then, footsteps were heard from the basement and Stanley appeared from behind the kitchen doorway. "Oh, hey, Leilani", he said.

"Hi, can I come in?"

"Sure"

She entered the household and Stanley closed the door behind her.

"It's about time you brought a girl home. I always thought you were a queer", Mr. Barber commented.  Leilani furrowed her eyebrows at his insensitive words before Stanley led her to the basement.

"Sorry about him", Stanley said to her as they went downstairs. From the tone of his voice, she could tell that his dad's comment bothered him. "It's okay", replied Leilani. She looked around the basement which was also Stanley's bedroom and noticed the old band posters, VHS players, and vinyl records. "Holy shit, you collect all of this stuff?", Leilani asked, picking up a "Wayne's World" VHS.

"Yep. It's the best platform because in my opinion, the shitty texture makes up for the experience", he replied. She nodded, thinking back to the old VHS' she used to watch as a kid back in Hawaii. "I'm just a sucker for vintage stuff", she said before sitting down on the couch. Stanley was scanning through his vinyl records. "So, what do you like about Bloodwitch?", he asked the half-Hawaiian.

"There are so many things to like", she began. "I like their sound and just how the artists' voices flow well together like..like the sound that waves make when they crash into each other".

"Yeah", he nodded, finding himself fascinated with Leilani's description. He pulled out his Bloodwitch album. "This is the only one I have". He played it on the vinyl record player and the first song that played was "Fly".

He pulled out a tin container and took out a blunt. "Want one?", asked Stanley, holding out the container of rolled up joints. "No, I don't smoke weed", she replied.

"Ok"

"I choose to get high on life..sometimes", she leaned back in the couch.

"I got you", he slightly chuckled before taking a hit of his blunt. He sat next to her and she tapped her foot to the beat of the music. "I don't think I've never seen your mom around", said Leilani. Stanley looked down at the ground and back at her, as if she said something that she wasn't supposed to.

"Well, she..kind of left a few years ago", he said a awkwardly.

Great way to ruin the moment, Leilani, she thought. "O-Oh. Fuck, I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have said something", she apologized.

"It's okay, you didn't know", Stanley replied. She nodded, relieved that there were no hard feelings. Personally, Leilani kind of had a fear that if she ended up saying the wrong thing to someone, it would end up scaring them away, so she was glad that Stanley didn't end up being one of those people.
"It doesn't really bother me that much", he stated. "Actually, my dad isn't here that much so I find it better when neither of them are around".
Then, the song "I'm Yours Tonight", started playing. "Oh, I like this song", she said.
"Really?", he asked.

"Yeah"

She started singing along to the song and Stanley joined in. "At last I see you on high. Come down upon me from the sky. Show no mercy, my life. I'm yours tonight", they both sang.

Other than her, Stanley told her that his other friend was Sydney, another girl who lived down the street, but in recently, they've hardly spoken to each other. Despite that, she could've probably guessed that he needed more friends. She didn't mind because she found him to be quite charming and admired how he didn't seem to care about what other people think.

A/N: I won't be updating as much since I will be a little busy with school. Also, this might be edited later.
