Untitled Part 9

 Leilani sat in a state of shock as she still held on to the roof handle. A bunch of other trees from the open field were also knocked down. Then, she snapped out of her state of shock from Stanley shaking her shoulder. "Are you okay?", he asked. "Yeah", she nodded. His attention shift to the now-clear open field and she looked in his direction. It was Syd standing in the middle of the field in the pouring rain. She had her fists balled up and slightly shaking. It finally made sense-all of the items knocking off the shelves in the grocery store. All of the trees falling down at once. Syd had telekinetic powers. 

"Wait here", Stanley told her before getting out of the car. Leilani ended up following behind him. The two of them walked towards Syd. "They were like this when I got here, I swear", she said to them.

"No, Syd, I saw", said Stanley. "We both did".

"Well, you better keep this secret, okay?", Syd urged, jabbing a finger at each of them. "Not a fucking word, got it!?"

"Yeah"

"Promise", Leilani nodded.

After that, The two of them drove home with a now- half-busted car.

The following week, Leilani met up with Stanley to get a ride to school. It wasn't until she stepped into the car when she noticed a purple scar below his left eyebrow. She held his face to examine it. "Jeez, what happened to her eye?", she asked.

"Let's just say that my dad wasn't too happy about the car getting wrecked last night", he replied.

"That asshole", she muttered. It not only angered her that someone she loved was hurt, but that people like Mr. Barber to get away with bringing children in to the world only use them as punching bags. "Stan, you have to tell someone", Leilani said.

"No, I don't want anyone to find out"

"But this isn't normal. He's going to do it again!", she urged him..

"Look, I can handle this on my own, ok? Let's just drop it", he raised his voice a little bit. She wanted to argue back, but she knew it wouldn't help anything. She stayed silent and looked up the window for almost entire car ride. "I'm sorry", Stanley spoke up, glancing at her. 

"It's fine", she said.
