"I know you heard the conversation between me and your dad yesterday", Keala told her.

"We're not moving are we?", Leilani asked worriedly.

Before she answered, Keala looked like to see if anyone in the house heard Leilani's question. The last thing she needed was to worry the other children. "No, but listen", she began, settling down on n her seat. "What I said was because I was just worried that the change in scenery would cause you, your brothers, and your sister to lose touch with your roots".

"Mom, we're  always going to remember where we're from", Leilani explained. "Just because we're in a different state doesn't mean we're going to forget we're Hawaiian".

"Okay"

During lunch, Leilani met up with Stanley and told him that she isn't moving again. "That's great", he said. Even though he was happy about that , Leilani could tell that something else might've been bothering him. "Is everything okay?", Leilani asked.

"Yeah, it's just Syd being a jerk lately", Stanley said.

"How so?"

"I asked her about homecoming and she lashed out, telling me that she has 'important shit' to worry about"

"Just give her time. She's probably stressed about her powers", she said.

"Yeah"

"Do you want to come over my house after school?"

"Sure"

After school, the two of them sat on her bed while Leilani strummed her guitar. "How do you say 'thank you'?", Stanley asked.

"Mahalo", Leilani told him. "Why do I have the feeling that you're going to ask me to teach you sweat words?"

"I don't mind learning those"

"I knew you wouldn't", she giggled. He leaned in closer and Leilani smelled the whiff of weed and cologne on him. "How do you say, 'I love you?'", asked Stanley.

"Aloha au ia oe'", she said.

"Um,..aloha au ia oe'"

Leilani grinned. "I love you too", she said before kissing him.
