Leilani thought about that night the next day. It almost left her with a warm and fuzzy feeling. That morning, Leilani went downstairs and greeted everyone, especially Nina who she greeted by affectionately tousling her hair.  Nina looked at her with a perplexed look on her face as she ate cereal. "Is she drunk?", Nina asked.

"That's what I'm wondering", Keanu muttered.

"I'm just in a good mood", Leilani shrugged.

"Well, we're glad", said Keala.

After breakfast, Leilani sat in her bedroom, tuning her ukulele  when she heard a knock on the door. "Leilani, your friend's here", Roberto called. She went downstairs to see Stanley standing at the door. "Hey", Leilani smiled at him.

"Hey", he replied. She let him in the house and the two of them sat in the living room.

"You know, Ricky Berry's throwing a party at his house tonight. I was wondering if you want to go", Stanley suggested.

"Are you asking me on a date, Stanley Barber?", she looked at him, slightly grinning.

"Maybe", he smirked.

"Then, sure", she replied.

A while later, Stanley got up to leave the house. "I can't wait for our date", he said as he stood on the porch. "Me neither", she replied. Before he walked down the steps, he went back to her and gave her a quick peck on the lips before leaving.

Later that day, Leilani met Stanley at his house, wearing a casual floral blouse.  She noticed him wearing a baby blue blazer suit. "Well, you look shnazzy", she said. "Thanks, you look great too", replied Stanley. Once Stanley and Leilani arrived at Rickey's house, he put his sunglasses on. "Ready?", Stanley asked her.

"Yep", she said.

The house was filled with chatty teenagers crowding around the living room, the slight smell of beer and vape, and music loud enough to vibrate through the floor.  "Stan!", Dina called out as she sat on the couch with Syd. "Hey, Leilani", Dina greeted her.

"You know her?", Stanley asked Leilani.

"We have the same history class", said Leilani.

"So, Stan, I just feel like you and I never really talked", Dina shifted her attention to the boy.

"I guess not", he not.

"So, you and Syd are like neighbors, like close neighbors, right?"

"I mean, we're like a few blocks away from each other so I'd say we're moderately close"

"Well, I also see you and Leilani seem to be getting closer", she said.

"Just ignore her, okay?", Syd asked him.

"Holy shit, is that Jenny Tuffield?", asked Dina, causing the three of them to turn to the direction of a dark-haired girl in gothic clothing, pouring liquor in her cup. "Who is she?", asked Leilani.

"This girl at our school that's a crazy alcoholic", replied Syd.

"Didn't her mom send her to rehab?", asked Stanley.

"Yeah, but I guess because she's here, it totally worked and she's all better now". Jenny started chugging a shot.

"Jessie's Girl" by Rick Springfield started playing in the background. "Oh my god, I love this song, we have to dance to this, like right now", Dina pulled Syd up from her seat and led her to the dance floor. Stanley and Leilani sat on the couch and watched as the two girls danced.

There was silence between them until Stanley spoke up. "Are you enjoying yourself?", he asked her. "Yeah", she nodded.

"Lan, I've been meaning to ask you something", he began, getting her attention. "I was wondering if you'd like to go to homecoming with me?".

"Yeah, of course"

"Great", Stanley said, giving a thumbs up.

After they said goodbye to Syd, they left Ricky's house as it started to rain. "You haven't stopped grinning since we left the party", Leilani chuckled.

"Well, I'm excited that I get to go to homecoming with my girlfriend", he said. It was the last word that left Stanley's mouth that made her pause. "Girlfriend?", Leilani asked him.

"Yeah. Do you not like that?", Stanley asked her.

"No, I like it", she nodded her head. She was now officially being given the label of "girlfriend" and she was satisfied with it. Then, a tall tree fell in front of them, causing them to swerve off the road to crash it.
