Two weeks had gone by with no contact between George and Alice. They were still upset with each other. George had gotten punched by Molly the day after the argument and she had to be held back by Neville. Molly had a hard punch and broke George's nose and split his lip open. Molly told him not to call Alice a bitch again or next time it'd be worse for him. George was in pain after that but he knew he deserved it. Someone had to do it. George fell into a depression state and didn't leave his room. He stayed there holding the sweatshirt and crying. He hadn't eaten for a week after the fight and skipped classes. He became thin and started to get sick from not eating. George also got aggressive. Lee and Chris moved their beds together since they started dating and for some reason it made George angry. Angry because they had what he wanted, love. He threw a water glass at them and it almost hit them but missed and shattered against the wall. It came to the point that Fred, Lee, and Chris had to force him to shower, eat, and finally go back to class. That all happened one week after the argument. The second week George was slowly becoming normal again. Laughing, joking around, eating, going to class, and planning a way to put his name in the Goblet of Fire with Fred. However he was still hurt and thinking of Alice. Her smile, laugh, eyes, hair, everything.
Alice went through the same depression state. She was constantly crying, sitting in the shower trying to drown herself and having to be dragged out by Molly and Neville, falling behind in classes, giving an attitude, and overeating and then throwing up because it made her sick. She missed George, everything about him, mostly his smile and his eyes. Those were her favorite things about his appearance, and just thinking about him made her cry. By the second week she had gotten better. She stopped overeating and trying to drown herself in the shower. She still cried but not as often. She was slowly becoming herself again. By the third week everything was normal, except George and Alice hadn't fixed things yet so Fred and Molly came up with an idea. Fred would get George in detention and Molly would get Alice a detention at the same time with the same teacher. This plan worked out perfectly. Alice had potions first period and George had it second.
While working on a dreamless sleep potion Molly "accidentally" bumped into Alice, making her add more of the ingredient than what was needed. The potion blew up and as planned, Alice got detention for an hour after dinner with Snape as well as 10 points taken. The house points being taken wasn't a part of the plan but it worked still.
George entered the potions room for his second class of the day. He wasn't excited about this at all. They were making Amortentia and George already knew what he would be smelling in that potion. He sat with Fred and they started to make it. Once it was done, they both smelt it. Fred obviously smelt Angelina and George smelt Alice. Her perfume, chocolate, cat fur and a hint of cinnamon. He wrote down what he smelt as instructed and then sat quietly and waited for Fred. He got bored and started messing around with a joke shop gadget he'd gotten from Zonko's Joke Shop. Fred took this as an opportunity and made the gadget explode like a firework and that obviously set Snape off. "Mr. Weasley's , that's detention and 20 house points taken for your idiocy and ignorance! How intolerable can you children be?!" Snape yelled with anger and annoyance. "Weasley One will be with Professor Sprout, cleaning the greenhouses tomorrow afternoon and Weasley Two will be with me after dinner for an hour tonight." He said looking at Fred first then George. The plan worked perfectly, so Fred got detention, at least there was hope for Alice and George.
Before George knew it, it was time for his detention. He made is way to the potions classroom and as he walked in he saw the unmistakable light pink wavy hair and small form. It was Alice and this was the first time he'd been close to her since the argument. He was happy to be near her again. He walked over to a seat close to her and sat down. Alice looked up and sighed. Of course George was here, but she was happy in a way. It was weird not being near him. "So why are you here?" Alice asked trying to sound annoyed. "Joke gadget blew up. What about you?" George answered. Alice said that her potion exploded after adding more of an ingredient than she needed. "Guess you could say we both had an explosive class today." George said with a chuckle and he heard the sound he missed the most, Alice's giggle that she did whenever he told a small joke.
"So.... um how- how've you been?" George asked quietly, hoping that she'd answer him. "How do you think I've been? You called me untrustworthy and a liar, that hurt almost as bad as you calling me a bitch!" Alice said back, slightly annoyed with him. George was about to say something back but Snape burst through the door as dramatically as he could. He said he had a meeting with Dumbledore and that they'd be cleaning cauldrons without magic and he'd lock the door and it would open when the hour was up. He took their wands and locked them in a drawer, so they couldn't use them. Just as he entered he left in the same dramatic fashion.
They got to work and started cleaning. Well Alice did George started to try and pick the the lock. "It's not going to work, it's magically locked dumbass." Alice said to George. George smirked knowing if he kept doing it and making noise that it would annoy her and she'd go over to force him to stop. He knew it was a perfect plan to get her to talk to him, stupid but perfect. He continued to jiggle the doorknob and making it as obnoxiously loud as possible. He knew it wouldn't take Alice long to snap since she was already mad at him. Almost as soon as he thought that Alice had snapped.
She walked up to him and grabbed his wrist and pulled him from the door. She went to go back to the cauldron she was cleaning but George was quicker. He grabbed her waist and turned Alice around and pinned her between him and the wall, which made Alice blush in frustration and the fact he was this close to her. "Now, I'm going to talk and your going to listen and not interrupt me until I'm finished talking, ok?" George said. Alice reluctantly agreed since she knew she wouldn't be leaving till she let George say what he had to say. "Look, Alice, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to call you a bitch or any of those things. They slipped out because I was angry and upset. When you gave me that sweatshirt back it just hurt worse because you never give them back, especially that specific one. You don't know this but that night I cried because I yelled at you and made you cry. Not to mention I made you flinch when I raised my arms in anger. I would never hurt you, I hope you know that. I'm sorry that I triggered memories of your brother yelling at you and hitting you. But you shouldn't be scared of me because I would never do that, ever, no matter how angry I got. I'm sorry, can you forgive me and let me be your friend again, please?" George said sounding upset. Alice was quiet but smiled. She missed him and it was clear he was definitely sorry or he wouldn't have been doing what he did. Alice smiled and said yes that she forgave him.
She brought her hand to his face and smiled. George thought that maybe this was it and she was finally going to kiss him. Alice was going to kiss him but lost her courage to do so and pulled him into a tight hug. George, although slightly disappointed, knew that the possibility of kissing her was very low. He still hugged her back just as tight. Both of them were happy to finally be reunited. George was happy to have her as just a friend, he wanted to be more than that but having Alice as his best friend was better than not having her at all.
Everyday more and more people were putting there names in the Goblet and one day, finally, George and Fred did it. They made an aging potion to put their names in the Goblet. Alice really didn't want them to, especially George. What if he got hurt or worse. She couldn't lose him. They ran into the hall very excited about what they'd accomplished. Hermione scolded them saying it wouldn't work and they were stupid for trying. They took the potion and Alice's heart started to beat faster and faster. They made it past the age line and Alice's hands started to shake with anxiety and she was slowly starting to have a panic attack, like earlier when Cedric put his name in, he was like a brother to her. Alice's eyes welled up with tears as they put their names in. It worked and they were happy but Alice was heartbroken that it worked. But when she thought all hope was lost the Goblet spit blue flames out, blasting Fred and George out of the circle and turning them into old men. It hadn't worked and they started to wrestle around blaming each other. Alice was happy it hadn't worked but was still having a slight panic attack and left the hall so no one would see her crying.
An hour later Alice made her way to the hospital wing. Her eyes and nose were red from crying. When she went in she saw two beds one on the left of the wing and one on the right, both covered with privacy covers around them. She asked Madam Pomfrey where George was and she pointed to the bed on the left. "Had to separate them, they wouldn't stop arguing. I got the beards gone but they're still recovering from beating each other up. I'm keeping them here overnight, I'm glad I separated them otherwise I'd here them all night long." Madam Pomfrey said. Alice chuckled at that and smiled when she saw Professor McGonagal come in with biscuits and kissed Madam Pomfrey on the cheek. Alice loved that they were dating, she found it adorable. She walked over to George's bed and pulled back the curtain and found him sleeping peacefully. She walked in and closed the curtains. She walked over and took his hand gently so she wouldn't wake him, even though he could be deep sleeper sometimes. Alice thought he looked adorable when he slept and she smiled. Something in Alice's brain told her to kiss him but she couldn't bring herself to do so, even if he was asleep and wouldn't know. Still she bent down and kissed his cheek. She sat down on a chair and slowly she fell asleep.
Later that night when George woke up he looked over and saw Alice, slumped over in a chair and sleeping. He wondered when she got there and how long she'd been there for. He realized she was holding his hand and blushed. He rubbed his thumb over her hand and Alice shifted in her sleep and woke up. "I didn't mean to wake you Alice, I'm sorry." George said but he noticed in the dim lighting that her eyes were red. She had been crying and he hadn't noticed. He pulled the blanket back and patted the spot next to him. Alice got up and looked at the clock, 7:30, she'd been here since 4:00. Alice didn't want to leave George though and she hadn't been kicked out yet so she took off her shoes and took off her blouse. She pulled George's sweatshirt out of her bag and pulled it on over her tank top. She had shorts on under her skirt so she changed that too. Always prepared for something George thought with a smile. Alice climbed into the bed next to him. " Why were you crying Alice and don't say you weren't I can tell. Your eyes are red and so is your nose. So why were you crying love?" George asked, worry filling his voice. Alice looked at him sadly then looked down, and whispered something under her breath that George couldn't hear. He held her face and made her look at him. They were so close with their noses touching because of the small bed. "I thought it worked, the potion. I thought it worked and your name got put in. I got scared, I thought that it worked and that your name would get picked. I was glad that it didn't work because if you got hurt or worse I don't know what I'd do. I had a panic attack Georgie, that's why I didn't come sooner, I didn't want you to see me cry again." Alice said softly, tears falling from her eyes without warning. George kissed her forehead and brought her to his chest holding her. He made her cry again because he was stupid, again. He let her cry into his shirt as he stroked her hair. "I'm sorry, I was stupid again, and now I've made you have a panic attack. I shouldn't have done that to you darling, I'm sorry." George said softly and held tighter. Alice soon fell asleep to George's soft breathing and his heartbeat. George looked at her laying on his chest and smiled. She was finally calmed down. He wiped her tears and kissed the top of her head, admiring her features. George fell asleep with her in his arms again and he always slept better with her there. Again George said "I love you" knowing she wouldn't hear him.
A week had passed and Fred and George were better and back to joking and playing pranks. George and Alice were getting along really well and it seemed like the fight brought them closer together. Everyone was excited for the drawing of the champions names that night and Lee, Chris, Fred and George were making bets on who would get chosen. Alice on the other hand was just worried about Harry, his scar was hurting and she worried about him. She was one of his biggest supporters and like the sister he never had. Alice was the first person Harry had come to about being bisexual, and his crush on Draco. "You should tell someone, Harry. This could be something big." Alice said to Harry. They were arguing about his scar, again. "I told you, Alice, I told..." he lowered his voice to a whisper only she could hear "Sirius." Alice rolled her eyes and said she was going to meet with Fleur. Oddly enough Fleur had met Alice at the feast when they first arrived and had become close quickly.
Alice had bumped into George on her way there and he took her hand and said he'd walk her there. "So...why are you going to see Fleur?" George asked curiously. Alice explained, again, that they were friends and were meeting so Alice could help her with English. Alice didn't mind explaining to George that she was friends with Fleur again because he wouldn't remember something he didn't have to worry about. He just smiled, wondering how Alice could be so nice and beautiful at the same time.
Alice saw Fleur at the doorway of the library waiting, she waved to her and Fleur smirked and Alice never saw her smirk before. She gave George a friendly peck on the cheek before she left to meet Fleur. George walked away blushing and with butterflies in his stomach, like he always did after he was with Alice and she did something like that.
"What are you smirking for?" Alice asked Fleur when she finally got to the entrance of the library with her. "Oh nothing, just that you've met your soulmate." Fleur said with her thick accent, making Alice stop in her tracks. Soulmate? What was Fleur on about? Fleur saw her confused expression and started to explain to Alice what she meant. "Veela know when we or others have met their soulmates. They seem to have a glow around them. I've never seen a glow as bright as yours when your with him though." Fleur said causing Alice to blush. Of course Fleur would know something like that, stupid Veela power Alice thought to herself. She began to explain that they were just friends and that she was wrong about them being soulmates. "Veela power never lies." was all Fleur said. They went to work on her English, all while Alice was still flustered about their earlier conversation. After an hour they finished for the day since Fleur had enough, especially since she was struggling to say apple.
Finally after what felt like forever it was time for the three champions to be chosen. Dumbledore drew the first name and as Alice suspected it was Krum who got chosen as the Durmstrang champion. When Fleur got chosen Alice cheered extra loud for her new friend. Then her heart stopped, just as she feared, Cedric Diggory had been chosen as the Hogwarts champion. He was like her older brother and she was scared for him.
However shortly after he was chosen, red flames burst out of the goblet and another name came out. "Harry Potter..." Dumbledore said quietly at first then "Harry Potter!"
This shocked everyone and whispers and murmurs were being spread around and Harry, as Alice observed, was scared and nervous. He didn't know what was happening and she felt bad and confused.
After the choosing they were all walking back to their dorms and Alice was scared, not only for Cedric but Harry as well. George noticed this and held her hand. "Wanna stay with me tonight? I give relaxing cuddles." George said, knowing that when he cuddled with her when she was stressed it would calm her down. Alice just nodded, tears in her eyes. She was so scared of these tasks, they were deadly, as they were warned, and that made her more worried. She already lost her parents, she couldn't bear to lose anyone else, especially people that were like her brothers.
When they got back, George gently got Alice to his dorm. By the time they were in his dorm, Alice broke down, saying how she couldn't lose anyone else and George calmed her a bit but she was still shaking. He got her one of his t-shirts and helped undress her and put the t-shirt on her. He laid her down and got changed into sweatpants, knowing if he didn't wear a shirt the warmth of his skin would calm her even more. He lied down next to her and pulled her into his chest, stroking her hair till they both fell asleep wrapped in each other's arms.
