Akari became good friends with Sumi and Kono.
Sumi was right, they did become a great team, but meeting Akari changed them. All they did was help people in need. They traveled through the villages and searched for farmers in need for help. In return farmers gave them food and shelter.
It's been almost a year since the battle, the horrible day when the world lost the great Naruto Uzumaki.***
The villagers asked for their help again.
Something had happened to their water supply up in the mountains. The crops were dying.
The three of them went to check out the river and find out what was blocking it."It's probably nothing! We're just wasting our time!" Sumi was yawning, while Kono and Akari were trying to solve the problem.
"Wasting time? Do you have anything important to do? Maybe even somewhere to be?" Kono gave her a wink.
"Shut your stupid mouth, Kono!" She stretched. "We could definitely do something better!"
"Stop whining and help!" Kono smiled.
"You guys are never gonna change! Lazy as always!" Akari had fun listening to them. "I guess we found tbe problem!" She pointed at the giant boulder blocking the river.
"Seems like we're not gonna be able to fix it. Let's go.." Sumi turned away, but Kono grabbed her by the clothes.
"Come on, Sumi!"
"It's huge! The three of us can't move this thing away!"
Akari chuckled.
"Don't underestimate your shinobi friend!"
"Yea, like you're gonna pick up this giant rock and toss it aside, Akari.."
Akari formed hand signs and made the boulder roll over. The river started to flow again.
"Holy shit.."
"See? That was easy!"Akari gasped.
Sumi froze as she saw blood dripping from Akaris lips.
"Akari!" She tried to move forward, but she was too scared. Akari fell on the ground bleeding. Only then they saw a knife in her back.
"Akari!!!" Sumi covered her mouth, trembling, not sure what to do. Kono grabbed her shoulders.
"Sumi stay close!" He looked at Akaris body. It was too hard for him to focus, seeing her drowning in blood. "Someone's here!"***
"Kid, get up!" Kurama wrapped his soft tail around Akaris body. She was drowning in darkness.
"What's happening?" She barely opened her eyes. "Am I dead, Kurama?"
"No." The fox pulled her out of the dark emptiness.
"I'm tired, Kurama... leave me be."
"You have to get up, Akari! They need you!"
"They need me?" She looked at the fox.***
"I'll never forgive you for killing my friend!" Sumi was crying her heart out. She was tied to a tree and the other rogues were beating the hell out of Kono. She was helpless. All she did in her life was steal. Sumi couldn't help her friend, she wasn't able to do a thing to save Akari or Kono. She wasn't that brave.
"Tell us where the villagers keep their treasure!" Said the man pulling her hair.
"There's no treasure, you fuckin idiot! Let Kono go!" Her face was soaked with tears.
"Liar!" The man slapped Sumi. "Tell us or he dies aswell!"
"These people have nothing to give you! They're just farmers!" She shook her head crying. "Let Kono go, please! You're killing him!"
Kono was losing his consciousness.
The man took a knife to cut Sumis clothes.
"Tell us or we'll kill your boyfriend and have fun with you. We'll take turns. I'm sure you can handle all five of us!"
"No, please!"As his knife was about to touch Sumis' clothes, Akari grabbed his hand and threw him away. Sumis' heart skipped a beat when she saw Akari standing.
She was breathing heavily. Her eyes were fixed on the enemy.
The men left Kono alone and ran to take Akari down, but tree roots emerged from the ground and caught them, before they could reach her.
"Enough!" Akari yelled. "Enough with the violence and murder!" Her voice got shaky.
Sumi wasn't sure how to feel. She definitely saw Akari die, but there she was, standing in front of her.
"The farmers have nothing to give you!" Akari raised her voice. "They work so hard to have enough food to survive and you're talking about treasure and gold!" Her eyes filled with tears. "So many great warriors died to save your pathetic lives, to make sure you could live... and for what?! So you could rob and hurt innocent people?!"
They were speechless. Akari wiped her tears and went to free Sumi. She was staring at Akari, like she saw a ghost.
"You're alive..." she whispered when Akari cut the ropes.
"I'm fine.. come on, don't be afraid anymore." She got up and went to Kono.
The wounds started to disappear from Konos skin as Akaris palm touched his chest.
"You'll be okay, Kono! You were very brave!" Akari caressed his face.
Sumi rested Konos head on her lap. He fell asleep as Akari healed him. Poor guy looked exhausted, trying to defend Sumi from five guys all by himself.
"Akari, behind you!" Yelled Sumi as she saw the man stabbing her from behind. Akari couldn't make it in time. The knife went through her skin.
She gasped.
"You didn't understand a word I said!" She grumbled and pulled the knife out of her skin. Her hair got white. The man backed down. "You people, never learn!" She grabbed him and appeared in the sky, hundreds of meters from the ground. The man started screaming and begging her.
"I'm sorry! Please, don't let go! Please return me to the ground!" He was crying.
"He died to save people like you... is this how you want to live your life?!" Akari was raging. "Is this what he died for?!"
"I don't know who you're talking about!" The man looked down sweating.
"Is this what Naruto gave his life for?!" Akari screamed to his face. Her eyes were getting whiter by every second. "You took him away from me!"
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry! Please don't let go of me!"
"Maybe there's no hope for humanity.. maybe I should kill you..."
"No, please, I beg you!"
"You're never gonna change..." Akari let go of him. The man fell from the sky.
