Some one fell to the ground.

I felt strong arms pull me out of my chair and I ripped the bandana that was covering my eyes off.

What I saw before me was Austin. He had a bullet to his foot and his shoulder and was bleeding profusely. Matt grabbed my arm and hobbled up the stairs. There was an obvious discomfort in his right ankle.

When we finally got to the top of the stairs, I looked at Matthew and took a shaky breath. "Is he dead?" I looked at Matthews chocolatey brown eyes.

"Not yet, but he will be soon. We have to get out of here. Let's run upstairs and pack a few things and we'll have to be on the run for a while. I'll leave my mom a note. You go get some food and water together in the kitchen. " I nodded and went to the kitchen. But on the inside I was breaking down. Even though I didn't anymore, I had once loved Austin. And now he's taking the last breaths of his short life.

I let a tear spill over my eye and slide gently down my face.

I packed a whole bunch of different foods. Probably enough to last us 2 weeks. Matthew was wobbly on the stairs so I helped him and then we checked all of our supplies. Matt handed me one of his hoodies and I slid it over my head. Before walking out of the door Matt sighed and rubbed his eyes.

Then he opened the door walking fast, but hobbling, and grabbed my hand. I shut the door behind us. Since it was only September, it wasn't very cold out. There was a light breeze and I checked the time on my phone.

1:34 am.

I locked the screen and put it back in my pocket. Matt slipped on a supportive looking ankle brace.

We glanced at each other one more time.

And then we were swallowed by the darkness.
