Abbey walked to where Ryan was standing.

"How is he? Please tell me my husband's ok"

"Abbey, lets sit down..."

"Ryan just tell me how he is.."

"Abbey sit down so we can talk about this.. Please don't be a doctor right now and just be the wife of my patient"

"Ryan before i sit down dammit you tell me that my husband is still alive"

Ryan looked at Abbey completely confused. And reached out and touched Abbeys arm.

"Oh Abbey I'm so sorry, yes Jesse is alive. He's been in recovery awhile.  He's going to be moved into his ICU room down the hall soon."

Abbey breathed out a sigh of relief.

Jesse was alive. He made it through. She sat down and Ryan sat down next to her. Patrick, Leah, and Liam all stood behind Abbey.

"Ok talk to me"

"Ok look, I know who I'm talking to here. It's hard to be a Dr and a family member"

"I'm doing my best to seperate the two"

"Ok I'm not going to lie to you. It was nearly a 15 hour surgery. And as a Dr, you know how dire these AAA rupture repairs are. You know that a majority of these surgeries don't end well and a lot of reasons for that is the time lost. Abbey, you helped with that. You diagnosed him, called 911 instead of trying to get him here, your quick thinking most likely saved his life. And don't try talking yourself down from that, ok?"

Abbey tearfully nodded.

"But I'm not going to sugarcoat anything for you. There were multiple times where we could have lost him, times when things were truly touch and go for awhile, but I promised you I would do whatever I had to do to keep him here with you. I wasn't giving up on him. But he wasn't giving up either. I'm going to be honest with you, we lost him 3 times."

Abbeys eyes grew wide. Liam placed his hand on Abbeys shoulder and Abbey reached up and placed her hand on her father's hand and squeezed it.

"He wasn't giving up Abbey. As much as his heart was failing, his heart just wasn't giving up. It was like he kept coming back even stronger. "

Jess, I can't do this

Jess, I can't do this. I can not lose you. I refuse to lose you, you have to fight like hell. Promise me.

"I promise you I will do whatever I can to come back to you always. I'm always going to come back to you, I'm not leaving you"

Abbey was brought back to reality as she softly smiled, thinking of Jesse's vow to her that he would fight to stay and build a life with her.

"Repairing the AAA rupture was rough. It was a long and grueling surgery, but we got through it. Like I said, his heart just wasn't giving up. We had to give him several transfusions during the surgery. As you know with the rupture of an AAA, the most crucial part is blood loss. "
