After an entire afternoon spent showering, dressing up, doing my hair, choosing shoes and jewellery, applying makeup and chatting with Daphne and Pansy - we weren't exactly best friends, but we tolerated each other, which was fine with me - I was finally ready to go down and join my "date".

I had hesitated before buying my dress, opting for a red gown which accentuated my waist and fluidly flew down to the ground, the neckline was soft (well I didn't have big boobs anyway) but complimented my shoulders with its two thin straps. I hadn't put any necklace, since I didn't have any fancy enough, but I had put long delicate sliver earrings. My makeup wasn't really heavy, I had only a bit of gloss, some winged eyeliner and mascara. The choice of red for my dress was strategic: Harry was in Gryffindor and one of the champions, so I knew I had to make him proud. I also knew that I was going to be the centre of attention because of that, which wasn't exactly going to be easy for me, but oh well...

I left the room, Daphne and Pansy had already left in a swirl of perfume and taffeta. Walking up to the corridor leading to the Great Hall, I started hearing chatter and music. I suddenly began to stress out. Other Slytherin students in the same staircase as me were staring... Right, the red dress. Ugh, they could be so uptight sometimes.

I arrived at a corner, and this was it. I could already see the entrance to the Great Hall and couples walking in. I spotted Harry and Ron who were looking up to something I couldn't see.

Then I saw.

It was Hermione.

She was gorgeous. I stood there, baffled. She was practically glowing, and I, was drooling. She just looked so stunning she could have given life back to a dead man. Harry and Ron seemed spellbound as well. In fact, every student was staring, as if time had stopped.

After a little while, everyone got back to their activities, and I walked over to greet Harry, Ron and Hermione. As soon as Harry saw me, a huge smile formed itself on his lips.

- "Hey Harry! You look great." I hugged him.

- "You look absolutely amazing." he softly told me.

- "I knew you were only hanging with me for my looks." I teased, "Hermione... you look so-"

- "-magical. " a voice behind us said.

We all turned around, it was Viktor Krum. With a smirk, he offered his hand to Hermione who gladly took it and he brought her away.

- "He's a prick." Ron said.

- "Why? Because he said the right thing?" I replied. I didn't want to be mean, but someone had to show Ron what he was missing.

Professor McGonagall called us from the end of the corridor. The champions had to make their entrance: this was our cue. I grabbed Harry by the arm and we walked towards the door. We were the last couple in line to enter the room. Just before walking in, Cedric who was standing in front of us with Cho turned around and shot me a small encouraging wink.

I was definitely regretting inviting Harry, I had forgotten we had to open the ball. But I guess it was a bit too late to change my mind. I knew Harry didn't like being the centre of attention, or even dancing, so we must have looked so stupid standing there, two nervous and awkward teens in fancy outfits.

Suddenly the doors opened, and we stepped forward, entering the room in between hundreds of curious students. We reached the dance floor, and got into position as we had been taught. At least I had some dancing experience from that cursed night at the Malfoy's. The music began, and Harry had to lead; I looked into his eyes, and I realised he was completely frozen.
