The first day of classes was okay.

It had started off with potion class, sitting next to Hermione who helped me through the lesson.

I managed to survive Professor Snape's manners thanks to Harry's sarcastic comments, which nearly caused me to get expelled from the class at one point because I laughed so much everyone turned to look at me. Weirdly, Snape did not even move a finger to object. Harry explained to me later that he was always indulgent to his Slytherin students.

The next class was transfiguration, and it was a bit less fun.

First, I didn't really see the point in learning how to turn a hedgehog into a pincushion. It didn't seem to me very useful, but I had always been a good student, so I took notes and carefully followed the class.

And second, the transfiguration class was shared between Slytherins and Ravenclaws, so I had to sit with the Slytherins. Even if I was next to Blaise, who was the nicest person in my house, I couldn't ignore Draco Malfoy's reflexions at the table behind me, which made his little fan club laugh hysterically.

I didn't react at any point, but I didn't really needed to refrain myself since his jokes were actually quite bad.

The rest of the first day went well, I had two more classes : charms and Herbology. I was starting to identify which classes I liked the most. But it also made me realise how much I had missed in three years. I was very, very, very late.

I caught up with Harry, Ron and Hermione after classes at the library, where they were discreetly chatting.

- "Hey, how was your day ?" Harry asked.

- "Exhausting." I complained "I think I should have classes with the first years."

- "That bad huh ?" Ron enquired.

- "Well, it was okay. I mean, I managed to get through with it and to follow the classes." I detailed "But there are so much things I didn't understand."

- "Don't worry." Hermione blurted, "We'll help you. Right boys ?"

Harry and Ron looked at each other, a bit annoyed, but finally nodded with a sigh.

- "We'll start with the basics." she announced, professionally "I'm actually quite excited to do this with you !" she confessed.

- "Right, then." Ron said while getting up, "Me and Harry are going back to the common room, good luck Y/N, you'll seriously need it. She's exhausting." he added, nodding towards Hermione.

- "You know Ron, you could really use some of these lessons." Hermione snapped.

I could tell she was annoyed by Ron's attitude, but I didn't dare saying anything about it. She proceeded with her task, and we stayed at the library until late.

I enjoyed my time with Hermione, laughing and chatting between explanations. I could tell that we were becoming friends, and I was relieved to know that I wasn't going to be alone.

When I got back to the Great Hall for dinner, it was already late. The only spot left at the Slytherin table was next to Draco Malfoy. I reluctantly approached the benches, and sat down next to him.

- "What the fuck are you doing ?" he hissed.

- "I'm madly in love with you, Malfoy." I replied with false loving eyes and fluttering eyelashes, "It was the only sit left, you twat." I bitterly added.

He didn't say anything after that, and we both ate our food ignoring each other. Blaise, who was sitting in front of me, lent towards me.

- "You know," he whispered "they're going to eat you alive if you don't open up to them." he said, pointing at Draco's friends and the rest of the fourth years with his head.

- "I don't really care." I stated, blankly. I didn't understand why he was so concerned.

- "Look, I don't want to scare you" he continued, "but they know a lot more about magic and spells than you do. It could be dangerous." he warned me.

- "I don't understand" I whispered in return, "I didn't do anything to them."

- "I can't explain right now," he sighed, checking to see if anyone had listened to our conversation "We'll talk in the common room."

I nodded, quickly finishing m plate and getting up to go to the Slytherin common room.

I wasn't scared of my classmates, but I did not have the same resources as them when it came to magic. Blaise's words had resonated in me and I was starting to worry. I sat down on the leather sofa facing the fire, patiently waiting for him.

He finally entered the common room.

- "What took you so long ?" I asked, now a bit anxious.

- "Sorry, I bumped into Professor Snape in the hallway and he gave me extra homework." he said. "Listen, you probably know Slytherin students are very judgmental..." he started

- "Yeah, I think I've noticed." I said, thinking about every interaction I'd had with a Slytherin, especially the ones with Draco Malfoy.

- "Yeah. Well here, friendships are based on status, and relations." he explained, "So Malfoy, obviously, is treated like a king."

- "But why?" I questioned.

- "You didn't know?" he asked, surprised "The Malfoy family name is quite important among wizards, and his parents are quite close to the Minister of Magic, and to..." he hesitated.

- "To whom?" I asked.

- "Never mind. What you mainly need to know is that, if you take down their king, it will not make you the queen instead. That's not how it works. They will turn against you. And they're not afraid to use dark magic, I've seen it happen." he explained, "So, what I would suggest, is to be a little less aggressive towards Malfoy, and a bit nicer to the rest of the Slytherins. It will make your life easier, I promise."

Of course, I was in Slytherin after all. I understood why Blaise was warning me against Malfoy's friends. If I attacked him, they would all come for me.

A cold chill ran through my spine. I had to protect myself and try to befriend them. Show them I was on their side.

- "I can't promise anything about Malfoy. But I'll try to make friends." I replied, still in shock, "Thank you for warning me."

- "Anytime Y/N." he told me with a smile.

I made my way to the stairs leading to the grils' dormitories, facing Blaise one last time before leaving the common room.

- "Blaise?" I called.

- "Yeah?" he looked at me.

- "We're friends, right?" I asked with a small smile.

- "Definitely." he confidently told me, his grin getting broader.
