Two weeks had passed. Classes were okay. I was doing fine, for someone who had never studied magic. Tree leaves were starting to brown, autumn was just around the corner. The Goblet of Fire was filling up pretty quickly with names, and we would soon discover who was going to compete.

I got closer to Harry and Ron, but mostly to Hermione whom I spent hours in the library with. We were really friends now, and I was so glad. I also managed to hang with the Slytherin girls, although I wasn't entirely comfortable around Pansy. She always looked at me in a funny way. In class, I sat with my housemates, and sometimes we would make fun of teachers together. I felt accepted and part of the group. I couldn't be happier to have made Hogwarts my second home.

Today was September 28th, I got up, got dressed and silently left Pansy and Daphne who were still sleeping in our room. I tiptoed down to the common room, pausing to get a view of the lake before heading out. Looking out of the window, I could see the morning sunlight peering through the dark water in the lake. The Slytherin common room really had the best view...

On my way down to the Great Hall, I ran into a group of older Hufflepuffs. Hearing someone yell my name, I turned around and saw Cedric walking towards me. We started walking together.

- "Hey!" he called, "How are you?"

- "I'm mostly good, what about you?" I replied with a small smile.

- "Good now that I'm talking to you." a teasing smile appeared on his lips.

I stopped in the middle of the hall, an accusing finger pointed at him.

- "Now don't go and try to seduce me young man. I'm a serious woman." I joked.

- "You? A woman?" he mocked.

Lifting my hand on my chest, I pretended to be offended.

- "You can't be a woman," he continued "How old are you ? Like twelve?"

- "Exactly, you're way too old for me." I told him, laughing.

- "You've got a point here." he admitted.

We were still standing in the hallway, and I suddenly realised how close Cedric was to me. If I lifted my hand, I could easily reach his chest. This made me blush a little. Flirting might be easy, but I had never really been with anyone before. I was staring to feel slightly uncomfortable, and he seemed to notice. His smile grew wider, as if he was enjoying the situation (what a pig).

- "What is wrong Y/N? You seem a bit..." he paused, playing with me. "distracted."

- "Um..." my cheeks got warmer "Nothing ! Are... are you worried about the tournament?" I changed the subject.

- "I try not to think about it too much, since I don't know yet if my name will be chosen." he replied, his face getting more serious.

- "Oh yeah..." I replied, I sounded so stupid. Why couldn't I talk like a normal person? Argh...

We started walking again, and eventually entered the Great Hall. We smiled to each other, a weird energy passed between us. As if something that hadn't even started was already ending.

Cedric joined his friend at the Hufflepuff table. I looked over the Gryffindors, but Harry, Ron and Hermione weren't there. I walked over my table, not particularly happy about it but not dreading it either, now that I had friends over there.

Oh boy was I wrong.

I hadn't paid attention to who was at the Slytherin table. I realised to great dismay that I would be having breakfast alone with no other than Draco Malfoy. Ugh, even his name was making me cringe. I reluctantly approached the table and sat as far from him as I could, not even glancing in his direction.

- "I don't bite, you know." a voice on my left said.

- "What?" I asked, stupidly. I could not believe Malfoy had spoken to me.

- "You heard me. Now, come and sit in front of me. We both look pathetic on our own." he ordered.

A bit hesitant, and certainly suspicious I did what he asked. We started eating in silence.

Needless to say, it was awkward...

- "So, um... Y/N." he started, I looked up from my plate "How are you?" he asked.

My eyes grew wide and I started to choke on the piece of bread I was eating. It was only after a glass of pumpkin juice that I was finally able to answer.

- "Good..." another moment of uncomfortable silence, "How about you?"

- "Oh... um, I'm good too." he replied.

We both looked back at our plates, but I wasn't really hungry anymore.

What did he want? Draco Malfoy had never been nice to me since the minute I got to Hogwarts. Even after I became friends with some Slytherins, he still managed to be annoying to me. He never spoke directly to me, let alone asking something to me. Why did he ask me how I was? Why was he pretending to be friendly with me?Why did he care? Why did I care for that matter?

- "Malfoy?" I said.

He looked up, he seemed uncertain, almost shy. Since when was Draco Malfoy shy? What the hell was happening?

- "Why are you being nice to me?" I blurted out.

He shot me a look I couldn't understand. He opened his mouth, as if he was going to speak, but closed it again. He looked around, making sure no one could hear and started to talk.

- "Remember what you told me the first night here?" he asked.

My real identity. Why was he talking about it? Did he tell someone? Oh he's going to regret it... Whatever my level in magic was, I would use every knowledge I have to hex the twat to dust.

- "Yeah, I'm pretty sure I remember, why?" I bitterly said.

- "I though about it and... promise not to make fun of me." he declared.

I was relieved that he hadn't revealed my secret to everyone, but now I was intrigued.

- "I can do no such thing I'm afraid." I mocked, for once I had the upper hand.

- "Fine. Listen Y/N, I'm not saying I want to... But given your, erm... situation, I think we should be friends." he said.

- "WHAT?" I exclaimed. "You're kidding, right?" I could not believe he had said that. "This is just some stupid joke, and in two seconds your two gorillas will be here and y'all will make fun of me. Very clever, Malfoy. I must admit I would have never thought of that one." I laughed.

- "No, no. Listen to me." he said urgently, looking once again around him to see if anyone was coming near to us, "My family is quite important in the wizarding world, and um... obviously your family is too." he began.

- "It's not my family" I interrupted, irritated.

- "Whatever," he continued, "I think we should help each other, we would be a great duo. I... I'm not really saying we should be friends, but we could at least try to. Y/N, we would work great together." he explained. "And it would make my parents very happy... not that they know who you are." he added.

I could not believe my ears... It was incredulous. I knew I had to say something, but I didn't know what. I couldn't find the words, or the ideas. What was I supposed to tell him?

Suddenly, Crabbe and Goyle came from behind me, sitting on each side of me on the bench. Malfoy had seen them coming and had had the time to compose himself. He got up, and started to leave.

- "We'll talk about this later... Mudblood." he announced with a wink I was the only one to notice.

Still confused from our conversation and completely dumbfounded, his wink really was the cherry on top and I blushed furiously.

Did I really blush because Draco Malfoy winked at me?

What the hell was wrong with me?
