Dinner was over... well for me and I put my dishes away in the sink. I see Ross still hasn't eaten his food. What did I do wrong? Ugh, I better see what's up with him. I walk over to the living room and sit down beside Ross.
"What did I do to struck a nerve in your body" I simply say/ask.
He just looks down at his lap. "You don't know who I am" he says.
"Now you're sounding a lot like my dad" I joke a bit.
Nothing.
"Look, if I offended you then I'm sorry but--" I got interrupted by his chuckling.
"What?"
"You being nice to me all of a sudden? I guess you actually do have a heart in that ice cold body"
"Ugh, you're the worst"
"Thanks princess" he smirks.
"Ross?"
"What?"
"How did you get in jail?" I curiously ask.
He sighs. "You're just gonna think I'm more of a criminal"
"I'm willing to give you a chance" I comfort him a bit.
He looks at me. It may sound crazy but I'm just willing to get to know my protector a little more, even if he is a criminal.
"You're really gonna hate me after I tell you my story"
"Don't be a big baby and just spill it already"
"Well, might as well tell you from the beginning. I lived in a small town in Colorado. My dad was an abuser to my family. He was an alcoholic, he kept abusing me and my siblings, even my mom sometimes. One night my dad went too far. He came home drunk, my mom confronted him about his drinking problems, he got mad. Soon things broke out into a fight, a physical fight. My dad kept pushing my mom around making her hit things as she stumbled. It woke me and my siblings up, we all got together in the hallway and went down to investigate. Soon we saw our dad beating our mom.... beating her to death. My dad stabbed her in the heart just to make sure she's dead"
He stopped for a moment. It's probably really hard for him to tell it, or even have that as a memory.
"He spotted us, we were his next victim. He started walking over to us and we did what we could. We ran. We ran to the closet room as locked it then started putting the toy chest, the dresser, anything that was heavy to block our dad from killing us. Suddenly we smelt smoke. We took off all of the heavy stuff blocking the door and took a peek on what was happening. The house was on fire. Everything was on fire. We ran downstairs to get out of the blazing house.... but I was stupid. I ran back in the house to grab my baby blanket and my first stuff animal. My sister ran back for me trying to get me out of the house. I grabbed my blanket and teddy bear, we were about to get out but there was a blazing fire blocking us from getting out. We got to the other side of the room and lied on the floor, she was behind me hugging me tightly telling me everything was gonna be okay....... that was the last time I ever saw her again"
A tear slipped from his eye but he quickly wiped it away.
"The fire department, police and ambulance got to the house. They got my dad and put him on death sentence, my mom was dead and all of my siblings we too. I was the only survivor from that incident....... I was only 7 when that happened. I soon grieved for years and wanted revenge on my dad but I couldn't since he's always gotten his punishment. So I took it out on the town. I made my aunt buy me a punching bag, I took all of my anger out on that thing. I always got myself into fights and was a troublemaker"
He sighs.
"In high school, I joined this gang. They weren't a good gang but I just felt like they understood me. Soon we were the troublemakers in Littleton. We robbed some stores one in a while, but then things got more serious for me. I took this as a hobby. I robbed more stores without the gang, sometimes I would hurt innocent people and engrave my initials on their chest. I would assault people because they remind me off my dad and I took my anger out on them but stop myself in time before I kill them. They cops caught me before I did anything worse."
"R-Ross I had no idea"
He shook his head and looked straight ahead of him, making him look at the blank tv screen.
"No one ever does." he replies.
"No one wants to believe a criminal" he says.
Maybe I shouldn't so hard on him. Maybe I should've listen to his story first, probably like my dad did. I guess dad thinks Ross understands what it's like to loose family. I guess he just doesn't want me to be gone, like my mom left him. I was about to say something but Ross just shook his head standing up.
"Let's get some shut eye. You have school tomorrow and I haven't slept on a proper bed in so long" he simply says.
"Ros--"
"I don't want to talk about it!" He shouts, making me jump. "J-Just show me where my room is so I can get some sleep" he orders.
I nod and lead him to his room.
"H-Here" I stutter a bit.
"Thanks" he mumbles.
"Ros--" he shuts the door on my face before I could talk to him. He's probably hurting, I'll just talk to him tomorrow. I walk into my room, getting ready for bed and get in the covers, falling asleep.
