«When you're talking to your girls, do you talk about me?
Do you say that I'm a sweetheart, do you say that I'm a freak?
Do you tell them white lies, do you tell them the truth?
Do you tell them that you love me the way that I've been loving you?
[...]
'Cause I've been talking to my friends
The way you take away my breath
It's something bigger than myself
It's something I don't understand, no, no»

We got home at around 6:30 a.m.
Amy had left me a note and something to eat on the kitchen table. I took the note and read it, my cheeks still red because of the cold air.
«Lils,
I know you're probably tired - Heaven knows what you two did last night - but you can't skip school again. Mr. Collins called. He said he already has his eye on you. I think you already knew, but you still can't risk your place in this school.
Love you, have fun with your friends later! xx»
I sighed and put it back on the table, grabbing an apple.
I went upstairs to grab my backpack and I didn't even change my clothes. I didn't care much anyway.
Michael was already waiting in front of my house, leaning on the car. He smiled when he saw me and opened the door. "Ready for school?"
"Nope. I'm tired" I laughed. "But I have to go, because Mr. Collins will get me expelled if I don't. And because I miss the girls. And I don't want to miss the first day of these fun weeks or whatever they're called."
"Perfect, I'd say. Let's go."

"He did what??" Kaykay exclaimed.
I was in the bathroom with the girls during a break, explaining what had happened with Michael and why they hadn't seen me in class the day before. They were more excited than I was, and they were all thinking that Michael and I had... Ahem. You can guess it. I tried to convince them that nothing had actually happened, but they kept thinking thag I was lying.
"Lils, I'm so happy for you!" smiled Crystal, hugging me.
"Same here" said Sierra. "So... are you two a thing yet?"
I shook my head.
"Why? I thought you liked him" asked KayKay, arching a brow.
"I do" I sighed. "But there's also Ash."
"Wait. What happened with Ashton? You haven't told us anything!" said Crystal.
"It's a long story. He might like me but he's not so sure. And it's Michael's fault."
"Okay, I didn't get the last part" started Crystal. "But I know for sure that you're in trouble, sister."
"Yeah, I noticed."
"Are you going to talk to Ash?" Sierra asked. "I think it's the right thing to do."
I nodded. "Yeah. I'll go to his place later."
"Ohh, you two alone in his room?" asked KayKay, stiffening a laugh. "Are you sure you'll have time to talk?"
"KayKay! Oh my-" exclaimed Crystal. "Sierra, you too, stop laughing!"
"Girls, girls!" I laughed, trying to stop them. "I'm serious!"
"I'm serious too!" KayKay joked. "If he likes you, I bet he'll make a move."
"Which means I'll have stop him, if he really does. That would cause way too much drama."
"Yup" nodded Sierra. "We don't like drama."

"Hey, Lils" smiled Michael, taking his books from his locker. "How did Biology go?"
"Great. Mrs. Black keeps looking at me in a weird way, but I'm used to it by now."
He chuckled.
"Listen, I talked to the girls" I said, opening my own locker. "They told me to go talk to Ash, so I think I'll go to his house later."
"Oh, okay" he whispered, turning serious. "Do you... Do you want me to come with you or to drive you there?"
"No, don't worry, I'll go by myself. I'll be home at around 6 p.m. I think."
"Great" he said, but I heard him think something else. "Please, don't let my plan work. Please."
"Don't worry, you'll be fine" I smiled, heading to class.
He looked at me, at first surprised, but then he remembered my powers and he smiled back.

"Good morning, class" growled the voice I hated the most.
"Good morning, Mr. Collins" sighed Calum, sitting next to me.
"As you all know, today we're officially starting what you have decided to call the fun weeks. We'll choose some fun activities and projects, related to art in some way. For example, today you'll have to write an essay - here, in class - about a painting of my choice and how it makes you feel, what it makes you think, how it can be related to your life and past experiences. Each one of you will have a different painting."
"That doesn't sound fun" Luke commented.
"It's Mr. Collins we're talking about here. What did you expect?" I asked.
"Heart! Come here" he called from the desk, holding out a piece of paper. I got up and I took it. It was the picture of a painting.
The painting of an angel with silver wings.
"What's wrong, Heart?" grinned Mr. Collins. "Don't you like your painting?"
I looked up from the paper, turning to him. "Why is everything about angels in this class, sir?"
He turned serious. "You should know, Heart. Ask your friends later. Sit down."
I sighed and did as I was told.
"I hate him so much" I heard Luke think.
"Me too, Luke" I thought.
He turned to look at me like he had seen a ghost. "Lils. I heard your voice in my head. Why?"
"What? How?"
"What the f- One normal day. Can't I have one normal day?" Cal sighed, looking up at the ceiling.
"Hold on. Maybe I can't just read minds. Maybe I can also make other hear me if I want" I whispered. "I need to talk to Michael."
Calum nodded. "Yup, you do."
"Great, students. You can start writing. You have an hour" said Mr. Collins. "Good luck."

Michael got mad again when I told him everything that had happened during Mr. Collins' class. He wasn't mad at me this time though, luckily.
"I'm going to kill him" he muttered, throwing his books back in his locker. "He deserves it."
"Mikey, it's not worth it, calm down."
"Don't tell me what to do."
"I'm not telling you what to do. This is an order, Michael. Calm down."
He sighed, burying his face in his hands. "I can't take this anymore. What's his problem? We need to do something about this. As soon as possible."
"I know, Michael. We'll figure this out" I whispered, hugging him. He sighed, hugging me even tighter. "I really hope we will. Listen, what did you write in that essay?"
"Nothing much. I told him that I had a friend once who was an angel. That's it. I focused mostly on the painting, without talking about me."
"Perfect" he whispered. "You're getting used to this, aren't you?"
"What, dodging questions?" I chuckled.
"Yeah, that too. But I was talking about hugs. You'll end up turning into a koala if you keep hugging me."
"Well, koalas are cute."
"Yup. And overly clingy."
"Hey. I'm not clingy."
"Oh, yeah, you are!" he laughed.
"But at least I'm cute."
"Well, I can't argue with that. Everybody loves koalas."

That evening I was at Ashton's house, as planned. We were both sitting on his bed, like the first time we had really talked.
"Lils, listen, I've thought about this" he started. "I do like you, I really do, but... not as much as I thought I did, maybe. I don't know how to explain this..."
I nodded. "Don't worry, I get it. It almost felt forced, right?"
"Yeah, exactly" he sighed, looking at me. He smiled after a while. "I overthink everything. I'm already regretting what I said. You'll be my biggest what if."
"Ash, can I ask you something?" I said, after a second or two of comfortable silence.
"Go on."
"Calum. You like him, don't you?"
Ash looked up at me again, surprised. "Is it that obvious?"
I nodded.
"Well, yeah. I think I like him. I mean, you know what I think about him. He's cute, he's funny, he's honest and a great friend. I wouldn't want to ruin our friendship, but..."
"I know what you mean. To be honest, I feel the same way about Michael."
He smiled. "Yeah, Kay told me that something happened between the two of you. Tell me everything!"
I explained what had happened and Ash listened to everything.
"Finally!" he exclaimed when I told him about what Michael had done. "He has liked you ever since he met you, it was about time he made a move. How did you react? Are you two together or...?"
I shook my head. "No, not yet, I wanted to talk to you first. And I also need to think. I don't want to rush into things. I've been hurt before, and..."
"In your past life?"
I nodded. "I had a girlfriend, Elizabeth, and a best friend, Emily. Once I saw Emily texting Beth for a whole afternoon. I should've known. Anyway, turns out Elizabeth had been cheating on me the whole time."
"How?" he commented. "I don't think Emily was such a good and caring person if she was dating her best friend's girl. They clearly didn't deserve you, Lils."
I shrugged. "Apparently, yeah. I'm moving on, you know, but it takes time."
Ash nodded. "Was it a long time ago?"
"No. Three months before I actually came here."
"Oh, dear. I get it now. You have every right to take some time for yourself to think."
We spent the rest of the afternoon talking and joking around like nothing ever happened.
Now I knew why Michael considered him his best friend, and why he thought he could be the right one for me. Ash was a good person, and he really cared about me and our friends. He looked tough but he was cute and sweet after all. We all knew it.
And to be honest, I was glad to be able to call him my best friend.
