After watching the Alpha whither down to his death, Scott and Stiles rushed to the hospital to get to Rosie. With Scott out of knowledge of what had happened to his sister, Stiles explained it to him in the simplest of words. Although the phrases were short and easy to understand, Scott built up the worry inside of him as he tried to ease his fastening heartbeat.
"But is she okay?"
"Scott calm down I can almost hear your heart hitting your ribs." Stiles stopped outside the department Rosie was in as he prepared his werewolf best friend to see his sister in a state no brother should ever see. "When I was here earlier they said..."
"They said what?"
"That she cant breathe on her own." His head drooped as it was hard to tell his best friend the fate of his sister.
"But shes gonna be okay right?"
Stiles did not answer. Instead he led his best friend to the room where Rosie and Lydia were laying in the same positions as earlier, only now there was not any doctors hovering over her, except their mothers. Melissa sat beside Rosie as she stroked her eye with constant tears almost toppling out her eyes.
As soon as Scott got a look of his sister he rushed into the room and stood at the foot of her bed. His best friend took it upon himself to stand back as it looked like it was just family in the room. He watched from a far Scotts heart break while he looked at his sister who could not do such a simple task of breathing.
"They're still running some tests." Melissa told her son softly.
"Melissa would you like me to get you a coffee, I'm going to make some calls anyway." Natalie Martin asked kindly as she left her daughters side.
"No ill just come with you. Give Scott some time with his sister. If that's okay?" She attempted a sweet smile but it just allowed access to another tear to fall out of her eye as if it was inevitable to fall. Following Natalie out, Melissa left Scott holding his sisters cold hand as he stared at her.
"Did they heal like you did?" Stiles said with his head through the door which was left open ajar.
"I don't know I haven't looked yet. And what are you doing out there, get in."
He shuffled over to Scott who also moved but moved towards Lydias side. She too was pale but since being attached to some wires and a drip, she had gained more color to her face. Underneath her hospital gown was the mark which the Alpha had left behind with his teeth.
Scott lifted the gown and exposed the bandaged bite to their eyes. Blood stained the what was once white bandage and soaked through it. Slowly, he peeled off the dressing and once he saw it his eyes went wide.
"Is it completely heeled?"
"No, not at all." The werewolf's head shot up to look at the other bed, the one his sister occupied. Then he rushed over to her and lifted her gown near her shoulder where her bite was. It was almost identical to Lydias, unhealed, blood soaking through and yet one was in more of a critical condition than the other. "The bites not healing like it did with me. Which means shes not a werewolf, neither of them are."
"Then what the hell is she."
Gasping for air, Rosie sat up hyperventilating with her eyes wide open. The machines she was hooked up to began beeping and roaring in the boys ears. Scott tried calling for medical attention while Stiles tried to calm Rosie down. It was as if she couldn't breath but she had all the help in the world for her to take in oxygen.
Her hand reached up and ripped the oxygen mask off and threw it beside her. The whole of her body wretched as she curled over the side of the hospital bed and threw up. But the weird thing was it wasn't a normal color, it was black. Black blood.
"Help! Someone help please!"
Rosie fell back onto the bed with eyes closed once again. Doctors came rushing in as they examined the girl and found the black liquid on the floor. Their minds flooded with confusion as they had not coped with someone with such a severe and rare condition before.
"We have to get her to surgery. I think the reaction has spread to her lungs. It seems as if shes coughing up... blood." The doctor, hesitant to analyze what liquid it was, stated to those around him that it was in fact blood but never in his 20 years of working in the hospital did he ever see blood this black.
Before she was taken away she weakly spoke with delicate tones in her voice. Because of her lack of strength the boys could not hear her so Stiles sprinted towards her on the bed and ran beside her.
"What did you say? Rosie talk to me please.
"I wish... I wish." She winced in pain. "I wish... you would... look at me...the way..."
"What? What are you saying? Look at you how?" He grabbed her hand. "Speak to me please."
"The way you look at her."
Rosie was then whisked away into a secluded area for staff only so Stiles stood at the doors confused as to what she had meant watching her go under, wondering if she would ever come up again. Stiles slowly walked back to where Scott was but stopped when he heard a heartbreaking scream. A scream of a mother who had just lost a daughter.
When he walked into the room he saw Scott cradling his mother in the corner as she sobbed into his shoulder. Stiles too dropped water from his eyes but blinked the rest away as he had to be strong. From behind him another member of staff, this time a nurse came in to greet Melissa.
"They said you're the same blood type as she is? Would you like to come with me and we can help your daughter?" Powerlessly Melissa lifted herself off the ground, wiped her tears with her elbow and put on a front which made her look as if she was strong when in reality she was fragile. She went with the nurse to donate blood to her daughter.
"What was she saying?"
"I don't know. I don't know what she meant." He sniffled as he waited for Scott to exit the room which Natalie Martin sat with her daughter. Once outside he finally spoke again. "She said that she wishes I looked at her the way I looked at someone else. I just-"
"Stiles."
"I don't get what she meant. Am I supposed to know what she meant?" Scott's nose was filled with the smell of panic and it was oozing off of Stiles as he for once was no longer the smart one. He led the two to take a seat on the chairs against the wall.
"Stiles, listen to me please." After taking a large deep breathe Stiles calmed and stared at his best friend with a blotchy face. "I know what she meant."
"Well what did she mean?" Stiles butted in before Scott was able to explain.
"Lydia." Scott was greeted with a look of confusion at the random name drop. "She wants you to look at her the way you look at Lydia."
"Great so before she goes to surgery, she friend zones me."
"Stiles." Scott repeated calmly. "She doesn't think you see Lydia as just a friend though does she?"
"She thinks I like Lydia." Excitedly he stood up and almost jumped as he came to the realization of Rosies true feelings. He sat down once again and began rocking back and forth. "She wants me. But she thinks I don't like her."
"Yeah." A mist of silence washed over the two boys as they thought about Rosie in surgery. Breaking the silence, Stiles got up once again and hit the wall to his left with force. "What's that for?"
"Earlier, Peter offered me the bite. To be with her." Looking away as he spoke, watching the corridor as if Rosie would be coming out any second.
"Yeah, you told me that earlier but I don't get what it has to do with this."
"He said... He said if it does not kill you. He was talking about the bite Scott. The bite it could-"
"Kill her."
