Your birthday was something that you never really celebrated much while growing up. It was always casual, never anything big. You'd usually just stay at home with your family, have a home cooked meal and receive a few presents from your parents. It was nothing much, but it was all you really needed from them.

And when you first started going out with Freddie, you thought he would make your birthday a big deal. You were expecting extravagant parties full of people, presents that were piled up to the ceiling, drinks that would last you a lifetime. But, he knew how you preferred to keep it simple on your birthdays.

He would always stay at home with you, attempt to make a homemade meal even though he wasn't the best when it came to cooking, and he would give you the most sentimental gift he could possibly think of. To you, it was always a perfect day.

However, this birthday was much, much different.

For the first time, you were absolutely alone on your birthday.

It wasn't the plan, but that's how things had to be for your birthday. Freddie wanted to do what he did for you every year, cuddling up on the couch while watching your favorite movie with him watching you open his present that he had been planning since the year before.

But Freddie was all the way in America for yet another one of his tours with his band. He wanted to be with you more than anything, but you convinced him to stay in America with the rest of the band. You knew how important his career was and you knew that they couldn't have a show without Freddie. It was important for him to go to America, even when he had to be away for your birthday.

While you did miss him dearly on your birthday, you didn't regret your decision by convincing him to go. You knew how important it was for everyone. You were willing to sacrifice just one year without your boyfriend.

You sat alone on the couch, petting Delilah who was currently in your lap, the only company you had for your birthday.

"At least I have you." You whispered quietly and smiled softly as you kissed her fur, petting her gently as you leaned your head back on the couch, squeezing your eyes shut as you sighed heavily.

Even though you didn't want to admit it to yourself, you missed not having Freddie here with you. You missed the traditions that you two have formed over the years. You felt miserable.

You missed Freddie being there with you more than anything.

--

Later on in the evening, you headed into the kitchen to make yourself a meal for one. It wasn't the same without Freddie making an absolute mess in the kitchen while laughing, giving up and then having to order take out for the night.

You smiled softly at all the memories before sighing.

At least there's always next year

You thought to yourself as you cooking some pasta over the stove, humming a quiet tune to yourself to try and cheer yourself up.

As the water was boiling, you heard the phone begin to ring. You sighed quietly and quickly made your way into the living room so you could finish up the quick phone call and get straight back to your cooking.

"Hello?" You answered, picking the phone up and holding it up to your ear.

"Hello darling." You heard Freddie's familiar voice on the other end of the line, causing a wide smile to spread upon your face.

"Freddie!" You smiled, glad to be hearing his voice again, "I thought you were busy setting up for a show?" You asked, sitting down on the couch arm. The pasta could wait. Freddie was much, much more important now.

"I got Roger and Brian to get everything ready for me. Still not convinced they know exactly what they're doing." Freddie laughed quietly and you could just picture the smile that must have been on his face. Oh how much you've missed hearing that laugh of his.

"I've missed you." You spoke quietly while holding the phone close to you. It made you feel like Freddie was right there by your side.

"I've missed you too, my love. So very much. But I'll be home in no time, I promise." Freddie tried to reassure you.

"A week isn't exactly in no time," You laughed quietly, shaking your head before sighing, "But I'll be counting down the hours."

"Lovely to hear. I'll be doing the same." Freddie chuckled quietly, causing you to smile even more, if possible. You adored his laugh more than anything. It brought you such a joy that you couldn't even begin to describe it.

Before you could even get another word in, you heard Freddie sigh quietly.

"I'm so sorry darling, but Rogers calling out for me. I really have to go."

You frowned a little and nodded "It's alright, I understand. Have fun tonight."

"Oh I will," Freddie laughed quietly, "Love you." He muttered before hanging up the phone quickly.

You looked down at the phone and sighed quietly to yourself. He seemed like he was in such a rush, he didn't even wish you a happy birthday. Could he have forgotten? No, that wasn't like him. But, he always wished you a happy birthday right when you two would wake up. It wasn't like him to just completely brush over it.

You ran a hand through your hair and closed your eyes for a moment. You were probably just overthinking this whole thing. Freddie did seem busy, it was possible that he just wasn't thinking of it in the moment.

But you still couldn't help but feel hurt. It hurt enough that he couldn't be there for you on your birthday which he loved to celebrate do much, but for him not to even say anything, that hurt you.

You slowly got back up from the couch and walked back into the kitchen to continue making dinner for just you, your thoughts still on Freddie and the phone call.

--

You were fast asleep on the couch. You practically passed out after dinner. It was such an exhausting day and without Freddie to keep you awake and going by your side, you couldn't help but fall asleep right after you finished your meal.

It was late into the night when you were carefully awoken on the couch. You groaned quietly and rubbed your eyes as you were wakened from your deep sleep.

You rubbed your eyes and sighed, confused as to what was going on. After all, you still were half asleep. You didn't have a grip on reality quite yet.

"Hello there, sleeping beauty." You heard a familiar voice laugh quietly as you slowly sat up on the couch, squinting your eyes slightly.

"Freddie?" You muttered, still unsure if it was really him or not.

"I came home early. I tried to be here earlier but scheduling got in the way," Freddie laughed, shaking his head as he quickly took you into his arms, engulfing you in a hug "Oh how I've missed you." he muttered, nuzzling his face into your neck.

You smiled widely, not hesitating to hug him back "I've missed you even more." you hugged him tightly before he pulled back slowly, kissing your lips delicately.
