Your little girl, Laura, was running around the house with her toys getting excited for the play date she had with her little friend. You were glad that your young daughter was finally managing to make some friends, ones that you hoped would stick around by her side.
But she was finally getting out there and you couldn't have been more proud. She had been talking non stop about her friend she had met, a little boy named Felix. Every time you would pick her up from school, she would go on and on about how much fun she had playing with her new friend. It always melted your heart, glad that she finally met someone she could connect with.
You were currently helping Laura get all of her toys organized, trying to get her to calm down from all the excitement she's been holding in for the whole week. She knew that Felix was going to be arriving at any minute and she couldn't contain her excitement. It was one of her first play dates after all.
Before you knew it, you heard a rhythm of knocks upon the door. Laura immediately shot up and ran to the door. You didn't even get the chance to stop her before she was already out of the room. You let out a quiet sigh along with a laugh, pleased to see your daughter so happy.
Laura reached up on her tippy toes, trying her best to open up the door on her own. The little girl frowned and let out a huff when she realized she couldn't open it all by herself.
"Let me help you out there." You laughed softly and ruffled her hair when you followed her over to the back door.
Other than what Laura had told you, you didn't know too terribly much about Felix or his family. You had only talked to his father a couple of times in order to set up the play date for the children. And from what you could tell, he seemed like a nice enough guy.
He was definitely sweet and charming over the phone. You had just hoped he would be like that in real life as well. You didn't want to spend the whole afternoon with him if he was a complete asshole. But you knew that Felix made your daughter happy. And if Laura was happy, you knew you had to deal with it either way.
Lauras bright smile reappeared when you opened the door for her, revealing Felix and his father, Roger, on the other side. Laura didn't hesitate to greet them, the excitement clear in her voice.
The second you opened the door, Rogers eyes immediately fell upon you. He thought you were absolutely breathtaking. The small pieces of your hair falling from your face, your dress perfectly complimenting your e/c eyes. An angel sent from above he would have described it.
A smile tugged at Rogers lips when he saw you. He was about to let a flirty comment slip as he usually would before remembering that the two kids were still around. Roger smiled down at Felix before gently patting his back, "You two go have fun." he said with a smile. Without a second to waste, Laura and Felix quickly ran upstairs to play.
"Would you like anything to drink?" You asked Roger, wanting to be a good enough host while he was here.
"Some water would be nice." Roger spoke with a soft smile as he slipped his coat off, his eyes never leaving you.
When he was around you, he felt slightly off. Everything that he was feeling, he never felt before. He felt almost nervous with butterflies in the pit of his stomach. For him, it was all a brand new experience. While he was usually smooth and calm, he couldn't help but be nervous with you. He found it strange for he barely even knew you. He was never like this around women before. But you, you were different. No one has ever managed to make him feel like this before. And he didn't even know why you were so special.
"Of course." You gave him a smile and grabbed a glass to give him his water. You had to admit that you did find Roger attractive. The only thing holding you back was that you barely even knew the man. But you could tell from his body language that he was already nervous and maybe even uncomfortable. It made you worried, thinking that maybe it was something you were doing wrong. Little did you know what was really on his mind.
You walked back over to Roger, handing him his glass of water as he offered you a smile, "So," he began while he sat down at the kitchen, "How's life been treating you lately?" He asked with a small chuckle before sipping on his ice water.
"Not too bad I suppose," You laughed along with him, shaking your head slightly. You set your elbow down on the table with your cheek resting in the palm of your head. All the while you kept your eyes on Roger, "And you?" You threw the question back over at him with the small smile still on your lips.
"Pretty chaotic. The little guy definitely keeps me on my feet." Roger laughed and shook his head, running a hand through his shaggy blonde hair.
With every little move he made, you could feel yourself melt. It was such a strange feeling for you for you've never felt this way towards someone before. At least not so quickly. It was almost like Roger had you in some sort of trance, everything about the man was mesmerizing.
"Oh I know how that feels," You smiled widely and shook your head. You could already tell that you were going to have a great couple of hours with Roger. For now, you were just hoping that your kids were getting along so you'd have more excuses to see Roger in the future, "Never get a moment to myself."
"At least now we can enjoy this moment of peace." Roger said through a laugh before raising his glass up, taking a sip right after.
"Cheers." You smiled, giving him a playful wink.
The hours seemed to fly by as you talked with Roger. There was never a dull moment between the both of you. You usually weren't the most outgoing person in the world, but the conversations with Roger just felt so natural to you. It felt as if you'd known him for years prior.
The words easily flew out of your mouth, there was never an awkward or silent moment when you were with him. It felt as if you two were really connecting. Connecting in a way that you definitely weren't expecting. You would have wanted him to stay the rest of the day if you could.
But every good thing had to come to an end. The evening was creeping up and you knew that Roger would need to leave soon with his son. But neither of you wanted your time to come to an end. You were both very much enjoying each others company. And of course, Roger still had that special feeling about you.
Roger glanced down at the watch on his wrist to check the time. A slight frown made its way on his lips when he realized just exactly how late it was getting. He got up from his seat and stretched a little before walking over to you, "I really should get going."
You nodded understandably, knowing that you had to get Laura ready for dinner and bed soon as well. Even though you were both having a wonderful time, you still had all these responsibilities to take care of.
"Well thanks for coming over and keeping me company." You said with a quiet laugh, tucking a piece of hair behind your ear as you looked at Roger, a bit saddened by the fact that he had to leave.
"Anytime," He said with a charming smile, making you blush lightly, "You should give me a call sometime and we can make a little date for ourselves." He said quietly, smirking slightly before planting a small kiss on your cheek which only made you blush darker.
"Will do." You couldn't help but smile even more, already looking forward to your little date.
