Lance's focus shifted, and he clenched his eyes shut.
A few milliseconds later, some static through the comms popped him back to reality.
Lance was startled for a mere moment, and then realized where he was. The Blue Lion's conscience, the starry landscape that could be part of a dream. Blaytz side-smiled down at him and winked.
"Need some help, mate?"
Lance opened his eyes and felt a veil slowly cover Blue. It seemed like frost was inching itself up the lion, gaining more confidence and boldness as it went.
For the first time in forever, Lance truly felt safe.
Feeling confident, Lance thrust the controls forward with excellent skill and landed on top of the Galra base, She moved! Ready to shoot at a moment's notice, the Blue Lion opened her mouth, ice already developing.
But the fighters just flew past him. Holy crap Blaytz, what did you just do?
Lance suddenly remembered one of Pidge's upgrades to all the Lions, one that could record and playback Galra radio chatter nearby. He could use it to figure out what the hell just happened, but he had to do it fast. He felt the ground getting warmer, the cruisers would launch soon, and the team would certainly never forgive him if they did.
He flipped the switch and was surprised by Pidge's excellent engineering, the recording was amazing! Perhaps he really was useless compared to her, and everyone else for that matter...
It seemed as if the Galra soldiers just lost sight of him, but that couldn't be possible, he was in the same spot... unless-
"LANCE WHERE ARE YOU??" Keith's voice crackled through the comms, "THE CRUISERS ARE LAUNCHING!"
Hesitating for just a moment, Lance heaved himself up back into the chair. You have to get this over with first. Then you can eat. Then everyone will finally praise you! But deep down, he knew that they would never. He was just their punching bag.
Shut up and DO IT, Lance.
The next few moments were a frustrating blur, Lance remembered destroying all the ships, first their shield generators, then their engines, then the weapons. All while the team was yelling at him to do it faster, and his headache was hollowing out his head. "Mission complete, guys!" Lance said, only to be answered by grunts and sighs.
"Lance, you took too long!!" Allura confronted him 5 seconds after he exited Blue, "What if we were fighting Lotor again? Or his fighters?"
"Sorry, princess." he stared at the floor, then remembered to keep up the act, "Blue actually-"
"We don't want to hear your crappy excuses. Try harder, goofball." Pidge didn't even have to think to say that, it was an automatic response from the team whenever they talked to him, and only him.
'Faster, Lance'
...
'What was that?! A stupid move'
...
'Daydreaming, lover boy?'
...
'Useless'
...
'We need to push him harder, he's a burden'
...
I'm nothing but a seventh wheel.
Their insults echoed through his head and bounced off of his brain's walls. Another headache. The team yelled at him some more, and he winced. He was too tired for this. After saying goodbye, politely to the team and Blue, Lance headed to his room.
"Well that was predictable," he thought out loud, "They didn't even care that Blue turned invisible."
(Done and DONE!! That took me the shortest amount of time I could've ever imagined to write a chapter.)
(I'm exhausted, not to mention ACTUAL classes are coming back soon. I'll keep y'all posted with some art and announcements, and maybe even make a Klance Valentine's Day short story??)
