His boots sent echoes through the near-empty halls, the droids halted their patrols to salute him, and everything was enveloped in purple light, it was starting to make him sick. But... this was home.
Lotor placed his hand onto the lock, and the doors to his chambers opened. He would step inside and they would close, and he could finally catch a break. Get some sleep maybe, drink something refreshing.
"Prince Lotor."
But he didn't step through, and the doors didn't close. "Commander Xhiren wishes for your presence on the bridge."
(Xhiren is pronounced 'z- eye(the word)-rin')
He turned around, "Of course. Tell the Commander I'll be joining him shortly."
"Vrepid-sa" it took the soldier a while to get out of sight.
"DAMMIT" Lotor's fist sent waves through the wall, and likely left a dent.
Why did it have to be now?
Lotor rubbed his temples. The time 'shortly' bought him was almost up.
~
The doors to the bridge were steadily opening. There were three, yet Voltron managed to break through all of them each time they hijacked a cruiser. Funny. He'd have to upgrade them soon though, at least for this one cruiser.
The metal was causing loud shrieks to scatter throughout the halls, and Lotor took this time to take a few much-needed deep breaths.
As the massive final door heaved for the last time, Commander Xhiren turned and bowed.
"Your Majesty."
Lotor's eyes skimmed around the room. Fortunately, the commander was alone on the bridge, and the cruiser was on autopilot. He allowed himself to relax, just a little.
"Xhiren," Lotor stepped inside, "Please skip the formalities. You and I both don't like wasting time, and I'm tired."
Xhiren smiled, "Whatever you say, L."
He clicked a few controls, "I have something I wanted to talk to you about." Xhiren's smile slowly faded, and he clenched his jaw.
Lotor pulled up a chair and sat down. He was sneaking glances at the commander, something was off about him.
Xhiren sat opposite him, and he looked to the floor a little.
"I'm worried for you." He shook his head and looked up, "I've been beside you forever, Lotor. And I can tell that this war isn't good for you."
He inhaled, "I don't know what you want to do, but I strongly suggest you put yourself first, or at least in high regard."
Lotor answered, "Are you suggesting this as a commander, Xhiren?"
He looked the prince straight in the eye, "I don't want to lose my best friend."
Lotor ran his fingers through his hair. Xhiren's face was clouded over with worry... and a hint of something else. Genuine. Lotor sighed, then smiled.
"Thank you, Xhi, I needed to hear that." he exhaled, "I've been thinking about doing something about this mess."
Xhiren was always the uplifting one. Unbiased, positive, like a refreshing ray of sunshine. One of the few who saw him as a person, and not some filthy hybrid.
Lotor leaned forward and placed his arms onto his lap. Through the main window, you could see varying galaxies. Worlds filled with life, nature, people, love. Each one has the possibility to thrive, and that possibility cannot be squandered.
"I'm going to end this war."
(I'm back :D It feels nice to be writing again. Thanks to everyone who comments, votes, or even just reads, you all gave me the incentive to come and update again.)
(Now for fanfic stuff: Yes, this is a Klance & Loturance fic! The ship content is coming really soon!! Also, this is my own universe/au where Lotor isn't bitter, evil, and insane... so no quintessence-draining. Please assume that anything not mentioned or hinted towards (like the Shiro-clone skadaddle) isn't canon in this fanfiction, just to avoid any confusion!)
(Also, February 2022 will be Lover Boy's second birthday! They grow up so fast ;)
