This afternoon, before I had gone out to the barn to tend to the horses, I thought I'd first go inside the house and fix the shower head for Maureen that she told me about the other day in the bathroom located on the second floor of her two story ranch styled farm house.
She gave me a spare key a while back and when walking in, I was a little surprised to not see her sitting down in the living room area, watching TV as she normally does around this time.
Maybe she was out back doing something, so I just went on ahead upstairs and the moment I was about to reach out for the handle on the bathroom door, it opened up and standing there was a dripping-wet-robed girl who looked to be around my age with long wet dark hair.
I didn't have much time to react or say anything or even check her out as she suddenly took me by surprise and threw something at me that was small and didn't really hurt me but was shocking.
"GET THE HELL OUT!" She screamed real loud as she began throwing whatever else was nearby at me.
"Calm down, Miss." I drop my tool chest onto the floor and try to block the items she is throwing at me.
"I swear to God I will call the Sheriff!" She yells.
"Please, let me explain....." I try and tell her and then suddenly notice that she isn't throwing anything at me and tries to run past me and with me not knowing if she was going for a gun or who the hell she was, I quickly sprint after her and stop her then quickly turn her around and put her arms above her head against the wall in the hallway.
"Let go of me." She says while trying to wriggle free and nearly kicking me between my legs until I pin her legs to the wall with my knee.
"Now calm the hell down and let me explain!" I tell her.
We both stop and look at each other for a moment and then I snap back to what's happening.
"Well?" She fires back at me.
I have to admit she is real hot right now as she looks at me and sounding all tough right now although she is really defenseless.
"My name is Todd. Maureen hired me a while back to help take care of the ranch. Now it's your turn." I tell her.
She takes a big gulp before replying a little more calmly.
"I'm her granddaughter, Annie." She replies.
Before either one of us can say another word, we both hear the front door open and see it's Maureen.
"Oh, hello. I see you two have met each other." She smiles while looking up the stairs at us.
I quickly let Annie go and then start walking downstairs towards her.
"Maureen, why didn't you mention to me that your granddaughter was here?!" I asked.
"Because it is none of your business first of all and second of all, I didn't know she was going to be here until early this morning." She replies then takes another look back and forth and me and Annie with a smile before heading into the kitchen to set down groceries.
Before I look behind me back up at Annie, she already had gone into her room and shut the door behind her.
Well, I guess the shower head is fixed.
I walk into the kitchen and set my tool chest down onto the counter.
"How long is she here for?" I ask her.
"Why are you so nosy?" She asks.
"Because Maureen, in the first place, have you forgotten that she left you and hasn't bothered to stay in contact with you for a while?!" I point out.
I'm not trying to be rude but to be honest, despite any rumors that have gone around town about what really happened with Annie and Maureen, the truth of the matter is this girl easily could have come back to use her grandmother for free meals and to get some money from her. She seems like that type.
Typical too. I have seen it too many times back where I had come from and I just hate to see anybody take advantage of Maureen, family or not.
Maureen has such a big heart to where she is easily taken advantage of.
"What's up your butt?!" She snaps at me.
"Nothing. Just think it's suspicious is all, that she hasn't spoken to you for a long time and then out of the blue suddenly calls you in the middle of the night and then shows up here out of nowhere, randomly!" I tell her.
"Then you need to mind your own business and not worry so much. She is my granddaughter and you need not to worry about her, she isn't like that." She fires back.
"Just, be careful." I tell her after we hear the door open up from upstairs and before she comes down the stairs, I head out.
From all I have heard from both the town and some of what Maureen has told me before, I have my suspicions.
Next chapter will be posted soon! :)
