The events which took place at the Quidditch World Cup, were terrifying for many. Lana especially.
It was a grim thought, but Lana felt less frightened by the Dark Lords return now that she was alone, with no attachments in the wizard if world. Now there was no one who could get hurt because of her.
Lana felt her anxiety rise. She would soon have to see Severus again. In fact, tomorrow was the welcoming feast. Lanas stomach turned and cringed at the thought of sitting at the staff table with Severus, and that being the first time he sees her.
Maybe catching him before school starts would be the best option, at least then she knew there wouldn't be a big scene in front of students. Lana decided that she would meet him in his room before the students returned, she was still extremely nervous to see him though.
Lana was sprawled out in her bed, thinking of all of the possible outcomes seeing Severus again could have, but her thoughts were interrupted when there was a soft knock at Lanas door, but before she could get up to answer it the door swung open.
"Miss Darcy!" exclaimed the intruder.
Lana was still half asleep, and wasn't able to see clearly ,but it sounded like...
"Professor McGonogall!" she said back. Lana leapt out of bed to hug Minerva.
"Oh it's so good to see you dear." Minerva said as she and Lana embraced each other.
"It's good to see you too, Professor." she said with tears in her eyes.
"Well, I suppose you could call me Minerva now." she chuckled.
Lana smiled. They stood hugging for a few minutes longer before Lana pulled away and gasped.
"Wait! Who told you I was here?!"
"Albus can't hide anything from me dear. I knew something was up the moment I arrived."
Lana snickered then threw on a cloak over her night gown and joined Minerva for a stroll to continue their conversation on.
Minerva and Lana talked of how their lives had changed in the past two years. Minerva made Lana tell her about every boyfriend she had in France, she make the "French lover" joke continuously. Lana heard all about the shenanigans which went on while she was gone. The opening of the chamber of secrets, an escaped prisoner of Azkaban. Lanas time in France paled in comparison to what the Hogwarts gang had gotten into.
After walking a while Minerva asked Lana to join her for tea and biscuits in her office, of course Lana agreed.
Severus was walking through the halls, on his way to the library when something caught his eye, someone to be exact. He stared out a window, down into the courtyard. It was only Minerva, but she was with someone. They had a large cloak on, and short brown hair. They were so distant that he couldn't make out who it was, he shrugged and continued on his way.
Lana returned to her room after tea with McGonogall. She realised that, despite completely unpacking and setting up her classroom, she still had clothes and other personal items packed away.
There was light scratching at the wooden shudders in Lanas window. She figured it would go away and went back to unpacking, but it continued. Lana sighed heavily and got up to investigate. When she opened the shudders a big brown owl came tumbling in. It was her mother's owl.
Lynette still lived in the muggle world, but didn't repress her magical nature any more since she left that disgusting man she had the pleasure of calling her ex-husband. It wasn't unusual for her to write to her daughter, but Lana could sense that something wasn't quite right.
Lana took the letter from the owls talon. She opened it quickly and read it.
Her mother wasn't very clear, as to what was going on in her letter, but Lana could tell it wasn't good. She knew her mother needed her, and she hadn't relayed her for that day in the court room yet.
Lana went straight to the Headmasters office, letter in hand.
"Headmaster?" Lana called quietly when there was no answer to her knock. She knocked again, which opened the slightly ajar doors. Lana walked in to find the headmaster hunched over what looked like a dish.
"A pensieve?" Lana whispered as she approached Dumbledore. Just as she was about to reach him, he jumped, like he was pushed out of whatever memory he was reliving.
"Ah, Lana." He said as he tried to collect himself. Whatever memory he was looking at must have been an emotional one, Lana could of sworn she saw tears in his small grey eyes.
"I'm sorry sir, the door was open, and I-"
"That's quite alright, Lana. I presume there is something you wish to tell me." He interrupted. Albus stood behind his desk, turned away from Lana, facing the shelves of books on that wall.
"Yes sir, there is. My mother just send a rather cryptic letter, all I really got from it is that she needs me. I know that tomorrow is the feast, and the sorting ceremony but-"
He cut her off again.
"Go Lana. Family is, important. Listen when they say they need you." His voice cracked a bit.
Although Lana was confused, she thanked him and left for London immediately.
After Albus knew he was alone, he sat at his desk, tears in his eyes. He pulled out a few aged photos from the depths of his desk. First, a picture of two young men. He turned the photo, the back was labeled "Albus and Gellert" . He set that photo aside, and examined the next one. This one was a young girl, no more than fourteen. The bottom of the photo read "Ariana Dumbledore 1885-1899".
Albus hid the photos in his desk. He didn't know why he brought them out, they only brought back the most horrid memories. Then again, this marked the 95th anniversary of her death.
A/N
That last part is by no means Dumbledore sympathy, mans is just going through it right now, and I like to distribute the sadness to all of the characters. I feel like the main characters in the original series have such tragic stories, and like I said I like to distribute the pain. Hope you guys are enjoying the story so far! <3
