11. Rendition

"excellent job, Sid. Morgan got back safe and sound. He actually told me you shot him" Lucifer saw Sid drag his feet across the office to take a well-earned seat.

"I thought that if he was mortal again in the mortal world, there was nothing saying he couldn't die again" Sid spoke.

"I hope Lilith wasn't too much of a handful" Lucifer looked to his secretary.

"well she did kick me through a portal, but she was nice about it, sir. Oh, yeah, she says hi" Sid mentioned.

"of course, she does. You triumphed and actually did something pretty badass in the human world. I fell the sudden urge to reward you somehow. You were in an apartment the last time I checked, right?" Lucifer stood up.

"still am" Sid nodded.

"that's no way to treat my new assistant. How about I give you a raise and a new place to live?" Lucifer offered.

"where?" Sid asked.

"here of course. You can have the guest room. You know you want to" Lucifer continued.

"well, the sheets are kind of soft" Sid mentioned.

"I'll take that as a yes. Do you have any large furnishings?" Lucifer sat back down.

"not really" Sid answered.

"good. We don't have to waste our time with movers. Maybe I'll send a couple of clerks to help you out. Can't have my ward living in a dump now, can we?" Lucifer grinned.

"one more thing. I believe you have something that belongs to me" Lucifer stood back up and walked over to Sid, holding out his long hand.

"what do you mean?" Sid pursed.

"check your briefcase" Lucifer knew.

"oh yeah, that" Sid remembered the ruby. Possibly Lucifer's spidery sense tingling again. After a quick walk across the hall, Sid took out his gem from the bank and handed it over to its rightful owner.

"that's what I like about you. you've got guts and you know what you want. Now go get your things so you can move in. this is coming out of your lunch break" Lucifer placed the ruby in his desk and instructed Sid to prepare to move. He would go from a dank apartment to a luxury guest suite as if he had booked a permanent room in a hotel. How could he wait any longer?
