22. Unpleasentville
After returning to Hell, Lucifer whizzed across the cityscape far beyond the suburbs and the blood forests to the outer gates of Hell, guarded by a lazy solitary demon named Otto.
"good day, your highness" the demon stood up for his master.
"make sure this chalice stays chained to the gates, okay?" Lucifer took a chain and wrapped it around one of the tall black iron bars that made up the gates of the realm branching out for miles on end. He placed the chalice between these chains, secure enough to not be taken.
"whatever you say, boss" Otto returned to reading a newspaper on a deck chair by the gates while Lucifer returned to the city, where he made a stop at the heavenly embassy in Hell. the white pearly walls of the complex were oblivious to the new visitor, who was escorted into the building by a demon employee. He soon came to the office of the angel ambassador to Hell, perhaps the purest thing in the entire realm besides 100% alcohol beverages or gold.
"mister ambassador. I need you to send a word to your boss in the sky. Tell him I've found the perfect location for our little deal" Lucifer waited at the ambassador's desk, where a smaller man in a white robe looked up to him from his computer.
"and where would that be?" the ambassador was suspicious of the dark lord's presence.
"remember the Alamo?" Lucifer implied.
"what are you planning?" the ambassador narrowed his eyes and stopped typing. He knew he had to respect his host and his realm, but as an angel, he could not help but wonder what Lucifer might have been scheming, and why it would involve the most powerful being topside.
"just a favor for a friend" Lucifer smiled.
"fine" the ambassador typed on before sending the message through the crossroads to his home realm.
"good. Tell him to meet me there in five days" Lucifer walked back out of the embassy to check the progress of the chained chalice, but when he arrived back at the outer rim, he saw the chains on the ground and the chalice that was Jack gone.
"Otto" Lucifer looked over to the demon, who quickly hid the wavering banknotes in his hands.
"yes boss?" the demon replied.
"where's the chalice that I specifically told you to watch over?" Lucifer rolled his eyes and shut them for a moment.
"oh yeah, that. Some guys took it and ran off"
"how did that happen?, no. doesn't matter, you had one job" Lucifer scalded his minion.
"I'm sorry sir" Otto rolled up his paper and bowed his head in shame.
"pack your shit, you're fired" Lucifer turned away from the gates and walked back.
"where are you going?" Otto stood up.
"to fix your fuckup" Lucifer flew back to town, miffed beyond belief.
