20. The readjuster

After a couple of hours of drinking and intensive partying, the two tumbled out of the nightclub in the dead of night.

"got to admit, that was fun" Sid wiped his glasses while he and Carlos walked along the river Dis.

"awesome, bro" Carlos replied. Their slow stroll took them through the wooded glens of Atro-city park. The streetlamps lit their way across the park, with only the occasional hellhound walker for company. Closer and closer they unknowingly edged their hands to hold one another on their pleasant stroll. Near the exiting gate on the east side of the park, Sid and Carlos were stopped by several gloomy silhouettes wielding knives and gesturing for any sign of cash or valuables the two might have had.

"who the hell are these guys?" Sid put his back on Carlos' to get a clear view of the thugs surrounding them. One of these strangers jumped with his knife at Carlos, but he was kicked back by the latter, who pulled out a small pistol. Sid did the same before the two began hurling a barrage of shots at the thugs, forcing them to run off either back deeper into the park or out onto the city streets.

"good shooting" Carlos turned to Sid as they put their pistols away.

"thanks" Sid responded.

"so, your place or mine?" Carlos proposed as they finally left the park, just south of the Arena of Suffering and in clear view of the lava lakes on the south side of the citadel.

"w-what?" Sid blushed and remained hesitant, not sure how to answer the question.

"you know what I mean" Carlos smiled.

"I've got a place. I think you're going to love the view" Sid led Carlos up Yama drive to the citadel tower. Sid led Carlos still to his special suite next to Lucifer's office.

"you live here?" Carlos gasped.

"perks of the job I guess. The boss is out of the office right now, so we have the place all to ourselves" Sid looked around his not so humble abode. He felt a tug on his arm pulling him back to face Carlos, who pulled Sid down for a passionate kiss. Sid had never done this before, finally admitting his disdain of having died a virgin. The kiss led the way for a night of lustful longings and an extremely ruffled bed.

As the sun rose over a new day in the red realm, Sid and Carlos puffed on cigarettes and cuddled after such a wild night.

"holy fuck...that was...incredible" Sid could barely find the words.

"you weren't so bad yourself" Carlos looked over.

"we should maybe do this again sometime" Sid suggested.

"you're right about that view. Really something" Carlos got out of bed in the buff and looked out of the window onto the city below.

"what are you doing?" Sid asked as Carlos crossed the room to find a pen and paper, writing a scribble down on an ottoman at the end of the bed.

"to get in touch. Anyway, I got to run. Later, dude" Carlos waved and walked out for the elevator while Sid looked over to the end of the bed. There he saw in Carlos' handwriting, his name and phone number. Emerging from his room, Sid went for Lucifer's seat, wondering what his boss was doing that was so important. Taking advantage of the quiet, Sid rocked out an air guitar, played running over the board table, sliding across said board table, tuning into a local radio station, and rushing back and forth across the room, playing a game of squash with himself on every available wall. For Sid, this was heaven in Hell.
