9. Nightmares

"Sid, in my office" Lucifer's voice bellowed from outside the guest room.

"what seems to be the problem?" Sid slipped to the front door to find Lucifer at his desk with a stern look on his face.

"there has been a little spring out of jail if you know what I mean. My sources indicate that a wayward soul has apparently escaped from Hell" Lucifer urgently told Sid.

"but that's impossible" Sid was shocked.

"it would normally be. If he didn't bribe a visiting Purgatorian" Lucifer stood up.

"it's just one soul, sir. No harm done" Sid gave a frank smile.

"one soul that owes me. this demon, by the name of Morgan, offered Satan a deal when he was alive. He wanted fame and fortune and was willing to seek out dad's services to obtain them. In exchange, he would sell his soul to my father. It seems he has tried to back out of the deal, and you know me. I live for a good deal, deal making is in my blood." Lucifer turned to the window of his high office.

"so, where did he go?" Sid asked.

"as king of Hell, I keep track of all those who enter the realm, of course with your help. This has never really happened before, so it's relatively easy to find him. The escaped soul Morgan gives off a certain aura of chaotic energy that is endemic to Hell, and according to my allies at the convent across town, he's somewhere in the human world" Lucifer deduced.

"the convent?. Are you going religious or something?" Sid questioned jokingly.

"there's more to it than it seems. Head over and find out what. Your mission, that you really need to accept, is to track down Morgan and bring him back to injustice" Lucifer continued.

"don't you need a Purgatorian to get out of here?" Sid wondered.

"not necessarily" Lucifer pondered. He instructed Sid to head across town to the convent of Our Ladies of Spiritual Damnation by the riverside. Inside the large doors, Sid saw a group of women in black cloaks near the portal circle at the entrance.

"so you're the one lover boy sent over?" a sultry voice called out from the group.

"Sid, and you are?" Sid looked around for the one who spoke.

"Lilith" a taller woman walked out from the group. Sid was expecting an older, smaller woman to be the head nun at the convent.

"the queen?" Sid was surprised. He thought Lilith and Lucifer were living together.

"such a tough word. I prefer the term fiancée to a boytoy" Lilith bopped Sid gently on his nose. Sid came to feel slightly intimidated by the taller woman, but he had to keep his wits about him. One wrong move, and she could blab to Lucifer about something he did not do, something that would cost him his job.

"I was told you have something on the escaped soul" Sid responded.

"and Lucifer isn't here because?" Lilith wondered.

"he's busy at the office" Sid pointed his thumb back behind him.

"if you really want to find this guy that badly...you'll find him right there" Lilith clicked her fingers as the large stone circle beside her raged a small green blaze then opened to reveal a bright modern city in the mortal world. The demons stood directly above a busy city street near a large bay area.

"where's this?" Sid asked.

"San Diego, California" Lilith clarified.

"chances are that Morgan will stick by the Purgatorian for protection. He might have paid extra money for some muscle" Lilith walked behind Sid.

"thanks" Sid looked back to the head nun.

"head to the convent headquarters in Los Angeles and you can get back home. Oh, when you get back to the office, tell Lucifer I said hi" Lilith kicked Sid through the portal before it closed, slamming him out onto the streets of the human city. the sun was shining, and the distant sound of foghorns could be heard in the harbor.
