14. Chasing the tide

The secretary made his way back over the lava river Dis to St Pious hospital, where he needed an urgent session with his shrink.

"doc, I need you" Sid knocked on then opened the door, abruptly receiving the doctor's attention.

"Sid. I was not expecting you back so soon" Dr Saul looked up from his readings.

"I need your advice" Sid took a seat on the brown lounger in the office.

"about what?" Saul asked.

"I am feeling...strange" Sid looked down to the floor.

"strange how?" Saul continued.

"like I am being tempted by a man" Sid looked back up at the doctor.

"that is only human Sid" Saul fiddled with a pencil in his hand.

"I know, but I have never felt like this" Sid turned over to face the ceiling.

"feelings of love can be complicated" the doctor spoke.

"I feel like I'm having a breakdown" Sid clenched his fists.

"excuse me, I am the shrink, I will tell you what is wrong" Saul became sterner.

"sure" Sid stood corrected.

"I want you to close your eyes and tell me what you see" Saul instructed Sid, who complied. After shutting his eyes, Sid began to speak of sand, fire, explosions, planes overhead, only this time in the middle of the historic catastrophe stood a bewildered Carlos. The head of a dragon arose from the sands and blew forth a typhoon of fire towards Carlos, enveloping him in the flames. The horrors of that day had not left him, and now even more worries rested atop the pile.

"dear god – I'm sorry doc but I just can't" Sid suddenly opened his eyes and stood up.

"Sid, we have not finished" Saul urged Sid to stay, but he was already out the door.

"I got to go. Are we still on for next week?" Sid bellowed from down the hall.

"we were about to make a breakthrough, Sid!!. patients running out on me. sometimes I hate this job" Dr Saul shouted then mumbled before retreating back into his office.
