Five Years

Part 22: Starfire

Beast Boy's pov

The wolves take me to a small creek.

"Wash your wound it'll heal up better." The large wolf says.

Rustling in the bushes behind us cause all the wolves to surround me in a semicircle for protection. I sniff the air and I recognize the scent.

"Wait. I know him." I say, transforming into my human form.

The wolves look at me surprised. Some back away slightly. Nightwing pushes through the brush and freezes when he notices all the wolves.

"You are human?" The large wolf barks confused.

"Not really human, but not really animal either." I reply, pressing a hand to my wound.

"Beast Boy, are you alright?" Nightwing asks, getting closer.

"I've got a bite mark and it hurts, but don't worry I talked with these guys and they're cool. They're helping us find Rae right now" I say.

Nightwing comes closer and inspects my wound. He pulls out some gauze from the utility belt he took with him on the mission. He wraps up my waist and ties it off.

"That should do for now. I called in that we needed backup after you ran off. They should arrive soon." Nightwing says.

I hear something approaching quickly through the bushes. I turn to the sound. The smaller wolf jumps out from the bushes.

"I found her! Come quick, she needs help." The wolf howls, already turning around and running off.

I quickly transform into a wolf and chase after her. We run through the forest, eyes closed, full tilt. I start to smell that familiar smell. A comforting smell.

I run over to the smell until I'm right in front of it. I open my eyes and there she is, staring up at me. My Rae.

She's sprawled on the ground. I can see her leg is swollen and injured. I transform into human form.

"Get on my back, I'll carry you." I say crouching down.

The small wolf stands beside her, allowing Rae to use them to get up enough to get on my back. Her arms wrap around my neck and touch my chest. I blush even though this is the worst time to think about holding her close again.

We start walking towards the small creek when an explosion explodes close behind us, knocking us down. I quickly get up, Rae was thrown a few feet in front of me with the smaller wolf. They seem to be okay though.

I turn around to see a dirty blond with long hair in a ponytail and a long beard. Beside him is a man with a completely black mask. The masked man is holding some sort of gun. He points it at us. I have no idea what to do. None of my transformations are explosion proof.

Suddenly Nightwing jumps out from a tree beside them. His shock sticks strike the weapon, disarming it. The masked man drops the weapon and pulls back.

The ponytail man tries to grab Nightwing from behind. I run towards them, hoping to distract him while Nightwing deals with mask man.

Unfortunately, the mask man has another weapon aiming it at us. He shoots some sort of dark goo at our feet and it grows up our bodies rapidly.

"Ah, you'll make a wonderful energy source." The masked man says, putting three fingers on my forehead.

I start blacking out. My body feels hot, like pure energy is just rushing through it. The last thing I hear is Rae's loud cries.

Raven's pov

I watch as Garfield gets stuck in that weird goo. I try to get up, but my leg keeps giving out on me. The Crystalizer does the same thing he did to me... He's turning him into a crystal.

"NO! DON'T YOU TOUCH HIM!" I scream and cry as loud as I can.

Nightwing is immobile, almost completely covered in the goo. I can't save either of them. My powers won't work. What the hell do I do? I watch helplessly as Garfield turns into a  crystal and falls to the ground.

Before the Crystalizer can pick him up a blast impacts right behind him. I look up where the shot came from. The familiar fire red hair and glowing green eyes give me some relief.

Starfire rains down blast after blast at the Hero Hunter and the Crystalizer causing them to back away. The Crystalizer tries to shoot her with the goo, but Star is too fast.

She's gotten really good now. She was always powerful, but these past five years she's really improved. She soars towards him quickly.

Grabbing him by the neck of his outfit, she lifts him easily with one arm into the air. He's struggling and now too high up for help from the Hero Hunter. The Crystalizer points the gun at Star.

She grabs it with her free hand and melts it with her powers.

"I've heard quite a lot about you. I'll make sure be put in jail for an long time for messing with my friends, Crystalizer." Star says perfectly.

She must be really mad if she wants her point to be clear. Star punches him on the side of the head, knocking him out. She floats down and notices Hero Hunter trying to get away.

A kick from someone else sends him flying back towards Star. The figure slowly comes out into view. It's BumbleBee. Thank goodness they're both here.
