That morning when you walked into the Curtis house it seemed like chaos.

Darry and Sodapop were running around trying to get ready for the day. They were looking for their clothes and shoes and work equipment while yelling out to each other.

You walked into the house cautiously and greeted the Curtis siblings with a soft hello. They didn't notice you at first since they were rushing but eventually they greeted you as well.

Ponyboy and Johnny were sitting on the couch. Steve was in the kitchen rummaging around through the fridge for some type of breakfast food or some leftover chocolate cake.

"Hey guys." You greeted Johnny and Ponyboy as you walked farther into the living room and stood in front of them.

"Hey (Y/n/n)." Pony greeted.

"Hey." Johnny said.

"What's the plans today?" You asked curiously.

For a moment there was silence. In Tulsa there was never really much to do, especially for a bunch of young greasers. You guys usually went out to the drive in or tried to catch a morning movie at the movie house. Either that or you guys went to the dingo to bum around there and talk to some of the older greasers.

It was just hard because there seemed to be trouble lurking everywhere and Ponyboy couldn't be caught up in any trouble because then he would be sent off to a boys home along with Soda and the Curtis family would be separated.

"Probably gonna catch a movie later tonight with Dally or something." Johnny shrugged and nuzzled deeper into his jean jacket.

All the sudden there was a voice from the kitchen. "Wow y'all really ain't got nothing. What happened to the eggs and milk and cereal and chocolate cake!?" Steve asked loudly.

By then Darry walked into the living room to slip his work boots on and lace them up. He looked extremely drained, like he didn't get enough sleep the night before or he hadn't eaten a good meal in a couple days.

You bit your lip. It pained you to see Darry like that. You knew it pained Soda and Pony too but by now they were used to Darry looking so run down all the time.

The oldest Curtis sighed. "I haven't had time to go shopping, I'll have to try and do it tomorrow... I'll see if I have any money for you to get a burger at the Dingo Pony."

He stood up after lacing his boots and began to fish through his pockets, his face looked pained and twisted with apprehension. Darry never had a lot of money to spare, but the boys needed to eat and someone needed to go shopping.

"Hey Darry don't even worry about it. I'm gonna take Johnny and Pony out to eat and then I'll swing by the DX with something for Soda." You spoke up to reassure the male.

He looked unsure, but stopped digging through his pockets when you said that. Darry wasn't one to take handouts, it made him feel ashamed or as if he was looking for charity and pity. He was a proud guy, but times were hard. He just didn't know how to take support from someone younger than him.

"You sure about that (Y/n)? I don't think I can ask you to do that." He sighed with a shake of his head.

You shook your head. "Darry it's fine. How many times have I eaten food from your fridge and slept on this couch free of charge? It'll be fine, just get to work."

Finally the man looked relived. His eyes flickered to his fathers watch that rested on his wrist. "Alright. Well I'll pay you back."

"No, forget about it Dare, please don't worry just get to work." You ushered him out the door by following behind him till you were both out of the house and standing on the porch.
