The fork made a clattering noise as it fell to the plate from L's pale, elegant fingers. Though only several minutes had elapsed since Light Yagami had brought him the cake, the detective had already consumed almost all the cake. All that was left was some of the soft yellow crumbs on the plate and a smudge of vanilla icing on the corner of L's mouth.

Light make a chuckling noise which sounded pretty legitimate- perhaps he was honestly laughing at his enemy. Or perhaps he actually found this cute or funny. Or maybe it was something else, when Light's intentions with this laugh were lying, which was the most likely option. Either way, Light chuckling slightly, his soft pink lips forming a kind smile as he did.

"Ryuzaki," The teen said, shaking his, his lightly coloured brown hair shaking slightly as he did. "You're such a child." Still wearing this smile (was there any honesty in it?) he proceeded to remove a white silk handkerchief from the breast pocket of the tan suit jacket he wore over his white dress shirt (Light Yagami was most definitely more sophisticated and stylish than other guys his age).

With the handkerchief held in his hand, Light stood up and leaned over the small table between he and Ryuzaki and pressed the soft fabric to the detective's face, where it was covered in the icing. Despite the fact that L had large eyes, they seemed to widen more than usual in (perhaps it was suprise?) at this gesture.

Like a mother would do for a young child, Light used his handkerchief to wipe away the icing from Ryuzaki's face. In fact, he himself had brought his face perhaps only ten centimetres away from Ryuzaki's face, which was evidently a lot closer than most people usually were to Ryuzaki. As Light made eye contact with him, the older male averted his eyes to his side and his cheeks seemed to turn a light pink colour rather quickly.

Light couldn't help but grin at this. Do I make you uncomfortable, Ryuzaki? Either way, Light pulled back, folded his handkerchief and placed it back into his breast pocket before sitting down. Now, L was back to his rather cold, solemn self.

"I'm an adult, Light-kun," Said the detective. He seemed to emphasize the '-kun' as he said it. By doing so, he was trying to remind Light how he was older. "I can take care of myself." Well now, he just sounded like a little kid.

"Ryuzaki," Light said. Though he was annoyed with this behaviour L presented- will it ever stop? -he smiled kindly. "There's nothing wrong with a little bit of help, you know."

The dark grey in Ryuzaki's eyes, so similar to clouds in a stormy sky rolled and then met Light's eyes again. "Of course I know, Light-kun. Why else do you think I would have accepted so many people to work with me?" So many? Thought Light. It was only a handful of people on task force. But even still, it would have been almost impossible for L to have found others to be willing to work with him on such a dangerous case.

Even though Light wanted to argue back, he calmed himself quickly and simply shrugged his shoulders. "I guess you're right, Ryuzaki."

Ryuzaki said nothing, showed no emotion for several moments, which dragged on forever. He simply stared into Light's eyes. Then his mouth opened and finally, he spoke again. "Though, I must say, I'm surprised to see you carry a handkerchief. That's rather old-fashioned, don't you think?"

Light was a little surprised by this change in topic. Ryuzaki never seemed to be this talkative. He gave a small smile and clasped his hands together on his lap. "Maybe I am a little old-fashioned." To this Ryuzaki responded, "Well, that's fine. There's nothing wrong with being a gentleman."

Now Light was surprised. His eyes widened slightly and his mouth opened a little. Was Ryuzaki complimenting him? Well, it didn't matter because before Light could analyze the situation any further or respond, L was tapping on his computer once again and saying, "We should get back to work."

And with that cue, Light left the room.
