A few nights back, Kira had spoken on live television. They had said the police would be sent 2 videos to watch and then to respond on April 22nd, to the question "Are the police ready to work with me in creating a just world?"

And Light's father, who had been in the hospital after his heart attack at that time, had broke through Sakura TV doors with an armoured van, hiding his face beneath his jacket. It was he, the least expected, who had stopped the terrifying broadcast. And though the broadcast had been stopped, Kira had not.

Light was sitting down in a room alone with L now. L and Light had both watched the video tapes. "Light-kun," he said. "You are aware of this situation." Previously, L had explained it to all of task force but was repeating it again now for Light. "We've said no to Kira's offer. So in four days, they're to take my life or the Director-General's." He paused only momentarily. "And if worse comes to worse, I will give my life but...I was thinking there may be another alternative."

"And what might that be?" Light asked, fawning interest. Fact was, he didn't want an alternative. If this person claiming to be Kira, could remove L from the picture, his journey to cleanse the world of evil would be that much easier.

"Well, as you noticed from the tapes, you and I both believe that this is a second Kira. The first Kira wouldn't do things so poorly."

Light nodded in agreement with L. He leaned back on the couch opposite of L and stretched his arms out. In the same swift motion, he brought his leg up to a 90 degree angle and rested his foot on his knee. L looked left and then down before returning his eyes to meet the younger male's.

"So what is it you were thinking we do?" Light questioned, raising one arched eyebrow. L didn't skip a beat. "I was thinking that since this is clearly a second Kira, we send a reply not from the police, but from the first Kira."

Light smiled kindly at L as and as he clasped his hands together over his lap he leaned in a bit, decreasing the space between them by several inches. "I knew you were a genius L, but man, you really are something else." L couldn't help but break into a small smile himself. He debated saying a thank you but instead dropped the smile. They were getting off topic.

"I mean, I only ask you since you seem so similar to Kira." L said, his face once again devoid of expression. Light groaned at this comment. "Come on, Ryuzaki!" Light would never actually be so uncool but he was putting on an act now. The point was to act cute, not cool right now.

"You're always trying to insult me, aren't you? You know, I don't like having someone I trust and care for so much suspecting me...." Light looked down and made sure to blush as he said this bit about trusting and caring for L.... and he succeeded as his cheeks turned a faint shade of pink. It was something special that Light had researched how to make himself do, and spent a few hours in front a mirror to practice and make sure he succeeded. He had to act like a cute girl confessing to someone she liked.

L's eyes widened slightly in surprise and in his mind Light thought 'yessss.'

Truth be, the detective wasn't used to anyone acting this way towards him and maybe he was a bit flustered to have someone like Light act this way.

The dark, stormy eyes of the detective fell down so he was looking at his knees. "I...." He wasn't sure what to say. L may be a genius but when it came to people, he could be awkward. He was a very introverted person and someone who hardly showed any emotion. But then his eyes rose back up to meet Light's. "I suppose I should apologize, but you can't blame me for suspecting you or treating you this way. And you complaining about it is totally unprofessional."

Light was stunned. He thought that would have worked for sure. His mouth was opened slightly but he closed it. "Alright..." He sighed softly. "I can make a fake Kira broadcast for you then, L."

L didn't bother to correct Light and tell him to call him Ryuzaki. Whether he didn't notice or decided to let it slide, was trivial.

The younger male rose from where he had been sitting, his eyes always down and never rising to meet the detective's again. He walked out of the room, slowly and quietly. And even after he left, L could feel Light's presence hanging over him.

After several quiet moments, the detective rose from the armchair where he had been sitting in that strange position of his and walked over to the window. It was a habit he had developed when contemplating. The sight of the vast outside world all around him helped to open his mind.

And so, he looked over the city. "What was that?" He asked himself out loud. What Light had done had made him realize something, but.... "That can't be." He answered his own thought then sighed softly. There was just simply no way that the great detective L could think those thoughts. Light couldn't be trusted. Nobody could.
