L trusted him enough to tell him the truth. To share his feelings. If Light were to ask a personal question, L would answer from the position of Light's boyfriend, not from the position of a detective. It was something Light would sometimes scoff at by himself. How unprofessional. Even still, Light was doing what he had set out to do. He was winning the detective over. Soon he would be able to put his plan into effect. Until then...
"Ryuzaki, what do you like about me?"
The detective looked up from over the bowl of ice cream they were sharing. The two of them were in Light's living room in his new apartment. After getting a job to earn money in the previous month, June, Light had decided to get his own apartment. He could afford it and this way didn't have to be so concerned about his mother or sister finding anything he didn't want them to. A certain book, perhaps.
"You're very unique, Light." L responded in a familiar way, dropping the '-kun' suffix. "You're one of the few people I've ever met whose truly on my level. You're just as smart as me, I'll admit and we're both doing what we believe will be most beneficial to the world. I think that's what I like about you."
Light restrained himself from rolling his eyes. So, what you like is that I'm just like you? Narcissist.
"And you, Light? What do you like about me?" L interrupted Light's thoughts. As L spoke he gathered more ice cream on to his spoon. A whole glob of it, not just a spoonful. He stared at the spoon, a little spaced out, before consuming what he had placed in his spoon. Light watched L as he ate. The question had surprised him and he needed a moment to think up an answer.
"Ryuzaki, you're someone very precious who I want to protect." Light responded. "The way you act, you sometimes remind me of a child. That's not to say you're immature or unintelligent because you are both very mature and intelligent. Just that you're too sweet and innocent for this world. And I feel a need to protect you, I think."
Behind Light, Ryuk was laughing hysterically. "Boy, if this whole Kira thing doesn't work out for you, you could most certainly be an actor. Boy...." And again, the Shinigami laughed in amusement at the lies that humans tell. As annoying as Light found this to be, he ignored it. Instead he watched L as the detective placed the spoon back in the bowl and met his gaze. Strangely enough, the detective was smiling the sweet, innocent smile of a child unfamiliar yet with the cruelness of the world. "So... I'm a sweet, innocent cinnamon roll too precious for this world is what you're saying?" This response surprised and amused Light. He laughed briefly and told L, "Yes, you're my cinnamon roll. Too sweet and innocent for this world."
The next hour or so carried on like that until L decided it was time that he return to taskforce headquarters. Light told L that he would be there later in the evening after he finished work. While that was true, Light did not mention what he would be doing before work.
After L had left, Light pulled out his laptop and started it up. "What's this now?" Ryuk questioned. The shinigami was floating upside down, seeming a little bored now that Light's little performance with L was over. "Ryuk," Light said, focused on the laptop. "It's time to set my plan into effect, I think." For sometime Light had decided to create a little gift to send to Ryuzaki which was almost entirely certain to get him to give up and to die, one way or another.
Later that evening, L would interrupted in the middle of an important conversation with two of his comrades. The interruption would happen when the detective was sent a video on every device he owned. He and the other members of the task force would watch in horror. Some more frightened that others of what was happening. The video would open with a dark haired man standing in a dark, empty warehouse claiming he was Kira and would kill someone very close to L if he did not reveal himself. To this L would feel slight concern but no strong emotions. After the man speaking was finished speaking on this topic, he would spot a phantom and go into a state of fear and shock. This shock would then lead him to have a heart attack.
At least this is what Light had written in the death note earlier that day when he was setting his plan into effect. After the previously mentioned event occurred in the video, a disguised voice would be played over the video saying, "L this was an impostor I had pose as me. He was a true criminal who sexually assaulted several minors but got away without jail time. Now, L, what this man said is true. With me, I have Light Yagami, the one you hold most dear to you."
Stepping out into the view of the camera would be an adult dressed in a hooded black robe, with their entire head covered behind a mask. The person had a grip around someone's neck, their arm gently squeezing into their hostage's throat. The hostage would be pulling at the person's arm, trying to break free. In nervousness and horror, L would be watching Light Yagami trying to flee from whoever planned to kill him.
