"The amount of Kira victims has decreased dramatically over the past week."
The great detective, L, was sitting alone, talking to himself as he ran his thumbnail over his lip. He had spent the last however many hours in front of his computer (typical,) looking at new information he had retrieved through hacking, his own people hidden throughout the world, or even just the news. The fact that he had stated he had learned from the news.
It was now May 30, a week since Misa had been taken care of. Since then, things had really been going great for Light Yagami. All the little games that he had been playing with L had been working. Especially what had been his favourite game. Playing with the restrained emotions that the detective had. Growing closer to the loner and gaining his trust before he would end him in one fell swoop. Light had been warming L up to him for so long. Perhaps it was time to really turn up the heat.
So, as L sat at his computer, pondering what steps to take next in catching Kira, Light decided to execute the next steps in his plan. The young man walked into the room, looking cool and casual, eyes on L the whole time. "How long have you been working?" Light asked as he sat down next to the dark haired man. "You look tired." Well, L always looked tired, really. He was an insomniac so consumed with his work that he felt sleep was a waste of time. Permanently staining under his gray eyes were dark purple splashes, contrasting extremely against his pale skin. His eyelids drooped over his large, almond shaped eyes, but despite his old, tired eyes, his skin still looked so young and untouched. Even though L looked tired, he never felt it.
"Light-kun," L said, not bothering to look in the direction of the man beside him, instead keeping his eyes on the computer screen as his one finger slowly tapped away. "It matters not how long I'm working. The more I work, the sooner this case will be finished."
"But, Ryuzaki, if you don't sleep, you'll get sick and won't be able to work!" Light spoke with a well-delivered false concern. He could be such a wonderful actor.
L sighed, perhaps a little annoyed at how Light seemed to be babying him. "If I'm not working, Light, what would you suggest I do? This case is the most important thing right now. If I waste time away from it, Kira will win the race in finding my name and kill me...." Even though L was a very unemotional man, Light could tell that this was actually a major concern of his. L and Kira were in a death race. And L, this race might just be closer to an end than you may think.
Light moved closer to L, so that they were almost touching. "L..." Light said slowly, cautiously. Finally, the detective turned to look at Light as he spoke. Light paused momentarily to look straight into L's eyes, then at his lips, before returning to his eyes. He hoped L would notice this. "You need a small break. It's important to work hard, but if you don't take care of yourself you won't be able to work." L processed this information. After a few moments, he sighed quietly. "Fine, Light-kun, I shall take a small break if it will please you."
In reply, Light smiled contentedly."Ryuzaki... Would you maybe want to go for a walk with me, then?" Light asked this after a brief, silent moment. L didn't look to enthusiastic, but got up off of the couch where he had been sitting, anyways. "I suppose I have nothing better to do since you have forbidden me from working, Light-kun."
It was a pleasant day outside. Already it was past noon and the sun shone brilliantly over the sky. It was late spring and it had been getting pretty warm lately but today there was a nice cool breeze. The detective hadn't been outside much, lately, so although it may not have shown on his face, he enjoyed the outdoors.
Light made idle chitchat with L. "Oh, how I miss seeing you at the University," and "Did you hear about this in the news?" L didn't respond much, although he did listen intently to whatever Light had to say. He did find Light genuinely interesting. There was something about Light that made him different from so many people whom L had known. He was incredibly smart, quite gorgeous and there was something charming just about how he spoke.
By the end of the afternoon, the Kira case was at the back of the detective's mind. Light had spent the whole day talking to him, and not once about the Kira case. It wasn't part of the detective's work ethic to allow distractions but it felt really good to just take some time off.
"Are you hungry?" Light asked suddenly. "Hm?" L hadn't been paying attention. He had been looking at Light but somehow zoned out. "I asked if you were hungry." Light repeated patiently. To this, L shrugged. "I suppose." He had actually gone several hours without his sweets now. It was a record.
"Well, there's a candy shop there, and I know how you love your sweets. So... I could buy you some, if you want." He smiled shyly as he made his offer. "Oh, well, if you want to."
"I want to."
L walked into the candy shop first, Light following. The detective looked like a small kid, so enthusiastic and excited about the candy.
Look at how cute he is... Light thought, thinking of how innocent L appeared. He was shocked with himself. What am I thinking? I can't think he's cute! He's my enemy! He brushed off those affectionate thoughts he had thought for L and receded back to his normal cool, calm, and somewhat sadistic self.
"Light-kun." L was standing in front of Light now. His hands filled with chocolates, lollipops and candies unique to Japan. "I picked some stuff out." It was a lot but it wasn't very expensive stuff. So Light didn't have much of a problem buying all that. He was loaded, anyways, even though he didn't have a job. He was a privileged kid whose parents paid for almost everything.
They stepped outside the shop and Light handed L a lollipop from the bag of sweets he just purchased. L took it but before putting it in his mouth he asked a very sudden question. "Light-kun, why don't you have a girlfriend?"
Light looked across the street to see what L was looking at. A young man and woman were walking hand in hand. The woman held a flower and smiled happily. The man kissed her cheek.
"Oh." Light said. This question was something that even he hadn't been expecting. Although, really L had just been curious.... "I don't know. There is someone I like, though."
"Oh?" L's droopy eyes widened, a bit surprised. "Yeah...." Light said. "I can't tell you who, though."
"Then don't tell me." L was looking at his lollipop, about to start eating it. It was where his interest lay presently. "I won't." Light said. "Not with words."
Light reached out to grab L's hands before he could start to eat his lollipop. Light stepped forwards as he did this and gently pressed his lips to the detective's in a kind kiss.
