January 10
Calum woke up the following day and felt like his life was going to change.
He was going to stop it once and for all.
He was tired of being the third wheel.
He was tired of being forgotten.
He was tired of being so anti-social and lonely.
He was tired of being tired, frankly.
As parked into a lot and got out of his car, he spotted Ella and her signature white beanie heading inside.
A lot of what she said did make sense.
Calum just didn't know how to talk to Luke and Michael about it, so he was just going to act as if he was completely fine with being left out of the group. Act as if it was perfect timing that they got a new friend, because Calum would get a girlfriend.
And that girlfriend, would be Winnie.
But he needed Ella's advice.
She was a girl, a girl that Calum trusted enough to talk to, and basically she's the best Calum had around for resources.
As Calum slid into his Creative Writing class, Winnie shot him a smile.
Calum returned the smile as confidently as possible, and then concentrated on the professor.
It was always really hard to focus in class, when there was a hot girl sitting next to him. The girl of his dreams to be more exact.
"Give your partner your thoughts on their idea, and share suggestions. Work with your partners." The professor finished, waving his hand to dismiss everyone.
Everyone turned around quickly towards their partners, the chatter in the room the only thing heard.
"Well, do you have any ideas? You can go first." Calum said, clearing his throat as quietly as possible.
Winnie twirled a piece of her hair around her finger casually, tapping the fingers on her other hand on the table. "I was thinking about maybe a book where these people celebrate a party, and I don't know, but the conflict will be something that goes wrong. I'm not sure yet. What about you?"
Winnie let go of her hand and gave Calum a small smile.
Calum felt nervous. "Well, I was thinking about writing a short novel where this boy invites his friends over to a New Year's Party. However, he's surprised to see that his friends brought along a new kid. The new kid gets all the attention and the boy is soon forgotten. He's trying his best to think otherwise about it, but all fails. So instead, he's going to find a better crowd to hang with. And maybe there will be snippets of romance in between. That's uh, undecided right now."
Winnie laughed slightly. "Wow, you really have a plan going. That sounds great. I think you should definitely include some romance. It'd really give the story a bit of mystery and shine, if you write it properly."
"Everyone is done sharing ideas, done giving the criticism and suggestions? If so, take out a piece of paper, and start writing!"
Calum sighed. His relationship with Winnie wasn't going anywhere. He had to ask the crucial question.
"Hey, Winnie." Calum whispered, so he wouldn't be caught.
Winnie swiveled her head around. "What?"
"Do you uh, happen to like skiing?"
Winnie's eyes lit up. "I love skiing! Why do you bring this up?"
"Oh, the thought just came across my mind. I just know a few people that don't, and I was really surprised." Calum lied, putting a smile on his face.
Winnie nodded, before directing her attention back at her paper.
Bingo. It may be a while before Calum's birthday, but if this moves fast, then he could bring Winnie on Ella's birthday trip. Calum will try his best to convince her.
