January 5
The next day at school, Calum hustled to get to his new class.
He didn't want to take physics anymore. He decided to take Creative Writing. He figured it'd help him with his journalism class, and his English Lit class.
Calum had always been a little nerd. He loved books. Reading made him feel amazed, as he stepped into someone else's world. Writing made him feel inspirational, as he hoped he could write something that no one could put down.
Creative Writing was a few doors down from his journalism class, so it was easy to find. He was going to be a bit late, as he just decided to change his schedule not long ago.
He opened the door cautiously, not knowing anyone in the class.
As he walked in, he found himself face-to-face with the professor.
"Uh, hello?" Calum said, sounding more like a question than a statement.
The professor nodded at him. "You are?"
"Calum. Hood. I'm Calum Hood." He stammered.
The professor nodded again as he went to look at his roster, calling back to Calum, "I'm Professor Charles."
He was probably in his early forties or so, with brown hair that was slowly starting to grey. He had deep green eyes, and a careless smile. He seemed nice, Calum decided.
"Ah, yes. Mr. Hood. You will take a seat in the third row, fourth desk down from the left."
Calum found his way to his seat, and realized that the seat next to him was empty.
"Welcome to Creative Writing." The professor said. As he opened his mouth to say more, someone stumbled in through the door.
The professor raised his eyebrows. "May I help you?"
The girl was Winnie.
Winnie stood there, looking flawless as usual, even though she was practically out of breath. Her strawberry blonde, reddish hair was in a ponytail today. Calum usually liked brunettes, but she was an exception to every rule Calum had.
"I'm so sorry Professor Charles. I was late to school this morning, so I'm late for this class, I just switched classes." She said, finally catching her breath.
Professor Charles sighed, looking at his roster. "Sit down, Ms. Parkers."
Winnie made her way through all the students, who were watching her every move. Most likely because she was the most gorgeous human being to walk the planet.
To Calum's surprise, she sat down right next to him in the empty seat.
She didn't glance at Calum once.
"Today, I will give you your partners. As I told you yesterday, the purpose of this is for one person to write a sentence first, and then for the other person to write the next sentence, and so on. I will tolerate humorous stories, but I will not tolerate silly stories. There is a difference, ladies and gentlemen. Give this your best effort, I always expect your best effort out of everything."
He turned around and grabbed a little party hat from behind him. He grabbed a piece of paper, ripped a small piece of paper, scribbled something, and threw it in the hat along with the other pieces of paper in there. Professor Charles nodded at Calum. "That was your name. Oh, that's right. Calum, would you like to give us a quick introduction?"
Calum cleared his throat quietly, standing up. "I'm Calum Hood. I like to read and write. And I have a thing for sunny days, punk rock music, and soccer." He sat down, fiddling with his fingers.
"And Winnie?" The professor said.
Winnie stood up, giving the class a beautiful smile. "I'm Winnie Parkers." She locked eye contact with Calum. Calum's cheeks were tinted a faint pink, and he shuffled his feet, nervous.
"I like to read and write. And I have a thing for rainy days, pop rock music, and volleyball." She smiled at Calum.
Calum managed to muster a smile back at her, his heart beating ten times too fast.
"Alright. Now I will call out partners."
As the professor called out people, Calum tried to match their name with their face. Calum had always been good at names.
"Calum and Winnie, I will put you two together, since you are both new." The professor stated.
Winnie looked at Calum through the corner of her eye.
Calum looked down at his notebook.
Calum didn't have much of a charm that ladies fell for, but maybe this time, it could be different.
