January 12
Calum whistled as he made his way inside the school, trying to calm his nerves.
He had talked to Winnie before, obviously, but this felt different.
To Calum, it almost felt as if he was asking her out on a date.
If she rejected, Calum didn't know what he would do. He'd have to wait until his birthday to do something, and his parents didn't want to pay for a ski trip.
This was all or nothing, and if it was nothing, it'd end badly.
Calum sat down in his usual seat in Creative Writing; also as usual, waiting for Winnie.
Winnie showed up right before the tardy bell, and sat down next to him, giving him a small smile.
Calum felt his emotions boiling inside of him. Not only did she notice him, she smiled at him.
She was clearly in a good mood.
That meant it was a good day for Calum to ask her to go skiing with him and Ella.
And Ashton.
Calum groaned inwardly, trying not to think about Ashton right now.
Luke and Michael hadn't even tried to make an effort to talk to him after school, over the phone, on a text, or anything other than during lunch.
But it's not like lunch was anything special, anyways. I mean, Ashton and Ella sat there as well, and Calum knew that he was just.... there.
As the professor turned around to write a quote from a passage on the board, Calum took a deep breath, and tapped Winnie lightly near the shoulder.
Winnie looked at him, looked back at the professor to make sure he wasn't looking, and looked back at Calum. "Yeah?"
Calum licked his lips, replying, "There's a ski trip this Friday. I'm going with Ella, because it's her birthday that day. Ashton might also make an appearance. Ella said I could bring along someone else, and I was just wondering if you wanted to tag along?"
After Calum finished, he prayed as much as he could as he awaited her answer.
Winnie raised an eyebrow. "What about your other friends? And which Ella, and which Ashton?"
"My other friends...uh, Luke snowboards, so he might be kind of separated from us. And Michael is uh, busy, that day. Family stuff." Calum lied.
Winnie nodded, buying into his story.
"And uh, Ella Aspen. She's a freshman. And Ashton Irwin."
Winnie's eyes lit up at the mention of Ashton's name, and Calum noticed.
He tried his best not to jump up from his seat, run across the room, and punch the wall.
"Ashton Irwin! He's a lovely guy. I'll check to make sure I have time on Friday, which right now I'm pretty sure I do. Skiing sounds so great right now. Thanks for inviting me, Calum."
Calum smiled, trying to not smile so largly that he'd look like an idiot.
"Parkers! Hood! Pay attention!" The professor barked, glaring at the two of them.
He turned back around to the board, underlining and circling certain words.
As Calum tried to contain his excitement, Winnie tapped his shoulder.
And better yet, she asked, "Can I have your number? That way, we can discuss more details, and I can let you know if for some reason I wouldn't be able to make it?"
Calum nodded, punching his number into Winnie's phone nervously.
He checked to make sure it was typed in correctly, he wanted Winnie to have his number, not some weird stranger's.
Winnie locked her phone, and slid it in her pocket.
Calum bit his lip. How jealous would Luke and Michael be, to not only notice that Calum hung out with Winnie, but also hung out with Ashton when Ashton wasn't hanging out with them?
Score.
