Scarlet's Backstory - Book 1 ~ (The Dead City Series)

Prologue

The war lasted years. Humans had feared Monsters because of their power to take a human soul. So out of fear, they declared war. Monsters had not intended anything like this, therefore weren't particularly ready for such an occasion. Yes, some had magic, but others didn't. Many lives were lost on both sides, but Monsters had lost the fight. They were banished underground, with a magical barrier used by the power of the Humans' souls to seal them there. The only things that had power to open it was either a monster that had absorbed a Human soul, or one of each kind of soul. Humans decided to wipe Monsters from their lives. They made something, a tonic. It could wipe all of Humanity's memory of Monsters, in hope that they would never have to do something like this again.

But many didn't like the idea of forgetting. Many had lost family members to the war, and therefore didn't want to forget them either. The Government didn't care for such things though, saying that it would all be okay. Some Humans took action. Some Humans had been in love with some Monsters. It hadn't been illegal or anything, therefore they thought they would be fine if they started a family. Humans and Monsters were starting to mix. Sometimes they turned out to be beautiful, and one-in-a-kind. Others didn't turn out that well.

The Government found out about such hybrids and weren't happy. They ordered that any hybrid should be killed on sight. They gave no mercy to the parents either. But the hybrids found they were more stronger than regular humans. They found that they, too, had magic. Thus a revolution began. Any Human or Human-Monster hybrid that believed in equality of the races revolted against the Government. Soon all the Government leaders who had supported and wanted the Humans to be the superior beings were slaughtered. Any hybrids that wanted to and fit the position well, were assigned as the new Government of Humans. But they didn't want to be known about. They came up with a plan. They would use the tonic to wipe Humanity's memories of any hybrids or full-on Monsters. But they would keep the Humans under control. They built a city for the Humans, perfect in any and every way. So perfect no one would ever want to leave. Some hybrids would be put in with the Humans to keep an eye on them from the inside, but most of them would repopulate the world. But something happened with the tonic. Someone put a drop of it in every single hybrids drinks after the mind-erasing. They all forgot about where Monsters were being kept. Only the oldest of young children would be able to find the mouth of The Underground's entrance.

The hybrids created different species. Four were the most high: Shapeshifters, Demons, Angels, and Creators. They were called Royals. They were the Kings and Queens of the world. They kept peace with everyone, and helped even the smallest of people. When picking a new Royal for the throne, there were five standards: 1. Be that actual race. 2. Be kind to every being. 3. Be responsible. If they're your people's problems, they're your problems. 4. Never use your powers for evil. And 5, Never associate yourself with The Eye.

Every race/species had their own area in the world. Of course they were able to go to other areas, but they all had one main area. Angels - The clouds, Argathripe and the Angel Kingdom. Demons - Practically anywhere underground and the Demon Kingdom. Creators - The Mind Space(Only available to Creators) and the Creator Kingdom. Shapeshifters - The Jungle of Xenonoth. Leifiers - The Valley of Malcalskinawf. Dragons - Usually wherever their element is. Regular animals (Cats, Dogs, Rabbits, Turtles, etc. ( no birds other than pigeons)) - Basically anywhere they want, usually in where their animal part would be (cat, dog = city. crocodile = swamp. cheetah = savannah. (etc.)). Any kind of bird except pigeons (pigeons are in the city) - Usually on mountains and hills. Any kind of fish - wherever they would be in the water or if they really want to, on land (any kind of Human-Fish hybrid can breathe underwater and on land).

But Humans were kept in 'contamination', in fear of everything that could happen again. The Humans are left in the dark. They're left behind, while we keep evolving. But it remains peaceful, therefore it will not be changing anytime soon. We'll be fine without them.
