A couple minutes later, I opened my eyes and was shocked. My dad was nowhere to be seen, and everything around me was on fire. I shakily got onto my hands and knees and saw something that scarred me to this day. I saw my father sprawled out on the ground, dead. I crawled to my brother and shook him to see if he was alive or dead. He didn't do anything, so I shook him again. This time he opened his eyes and got onto his knees quickly.

"Wh- What's going on?! Is this actually happening to us?! Where's dad?!?!" He screamed at me.

"C-Calm down! Yes, this is actually happening, and... dad is over there. Dead... I-I think," I mumbled and started to cry.

My brother stared at me in horror.

"W-WHAT?!" He screamed and ran over to dad's body.

I watched him as he reached for a phone and called 911, even though they've obviously already been called and the phone was in bits. I sighed and crawled over to my dad. As I thought about everything that was happening right that second, I realized something weird.

"Wait, why aren't we hurt? Why aren't we burning..?" I asked my brother in a confused and weirded out voice with tears still streaming down my face.

He thought about it for a few seconds and said, "I-I'm actually not sure..." he looked away, looking like he was hiding something

We sat in silence as we heard sirens in the distance getting closer and closer. Finally the fire trucks and police cars reached us and came to grab us all, even dad. As they asked us questions, they checked dad's pulse and tried to keep him alive. But on the 3rd question they asked, the house exploded out of the blue. All my childhood memories were gone. Every birthday party, every argument I got into with both my parents, every single memory I had there. Gone, just like that. I started to cry again and so did my brother, but not as much as me.

"Kids, please come with us to the police station. We'll call your mother down to the station and she can bring you home. I'm very sorry for your guys' loss." A fireman said sternly.

Not very apologetic, now are you? Geez. I shakily sighed again as they led John and me to a police car to go to the police station. They said our mom would come pick us up there.
