the second task

*AN*
I know I'm very unimaginative, something stolen and put in the lake, but it's the squid instead of mermaids and grindilow.

The night before the second task, Remus James and Sirius were sitting in the library researching more for the task to make sure Sirius didn't ~die~ while trying to find something. "Ok so-" started Remus, before Sirius cut him off
"Yes Remus, I now know everything possible about the lake, what happened in there and every single water creature." replied Sirius
"Are you sure?" asked James "The last thing we want if you drowing."
"I'm pretty sure the last thing we want it the world imploding but ok." replied Sirius
"Padfoot this is-" choose your words carefully Remus "important! You could die!"
"This isn't Sirius I am." replied Sirius, he then realised what happened "I can't decide if I want to marry you because you know me so well or desert you for not appreciating my jokes." Remus went red when Sirius half proposed, "Of course I wouldn't desert you but you know what I mean."
"Mr Lupin." came a voice, again it was McGonagall who always snuck up on them "Could you come with me please." Remus looked worried, was I blamed for their prank? because that was not me. Why would I throw snowballs at that girl? She was nice. He followed McGonagall out of the library.

What Sirius did next was pretty average so we're going to go into Remus' pov now.

Remus followed McGonagall as she got Dorcas and the Delacour girl. "Are we in trouble?" asked Dorcas,
"No," said McGonagall, kindly, or was that pity? "In here please." she opened the flap to a tent near the lake. They filed in and stood in a sort of line, "What es 'appening now?" asked the French girl.
"In advance," started McGonagall "I apologise." the three of them exchanged looks, "Take a biscuit." they all took one and started eating. Why are we here? Remus tried to say, but he couldn't make the words. He suddenly became very tired, his arms and legs started to fail, he felt someone collapse beside him. He tried to cry out but he couldn't. He started falling but his eyes closed before he hit the ground. The next thing he noticed was sharp cold air, he was drenched, there was someone next to him, people were yelling.

But thats a little far ahead. Back to Sirius.

Sirius woke up the next morning and went to the Gryffindor common room to wait for Remus and James. James looked very confused when he saw Sirius "Where's Remus?"
"I was gonna ask you the same thing?" said James "He wasn't with you?"
"No why would h- oh." replide Sirius "Yeah no. Wasn't he with in the dorm?"
"Probably already down by the lake knowing him." shrugged James (I mean he wasn't wrong)
"Probably."
James and Sirius met Lily and Marlene on their way down to the lake and Marlene and Sirius went to the tent as the others went to the stands "Tell Remus I say hi, James." asked Sirius, James nodded.
Sirius spotted an open tin of biscuits, he reached to get one, when he heard a meow behind him, "I wasn't going to take your biscuits." he said instinctively
"It looked like you were." said McGonagall "These are my... special biscuits. You probably shouldn't eat before swimming."
"Oooooh." replied Sirius (you all know what he thought) "Right ok."
This was when the Durmstrang boy came in and ruined the mood again.

The whole three schools were in the stands now. Sirius couldn't spot Remus, or anyone for that matter, he just assumed it was because there were so many people. "You three will enter the lake to find what was taken but beware there will be great dangers ahead," McGonagall read off a card "oh please it's not that dangerous otherwise I wouldn't have let it happen. Anyway, off you go then." the three of them lined up to dive in. "AS BEAUXBATON WON THE LAST ROUND THEIR CHAMPION WILL HAVE A FIVE MINUTE HEAD START BEFORE THE OTHER TWO JOIN HIM!" boomed a voice.
"See you down there then." Sirius whispered to Marlene before the whistle went and he dived in. He quickly applied the bubblehead charm and summoned a box. In the box was what he head read the giant squid liked (I got this from one part of the books its not even in the films - should be though). Before he could open it, a tentacle grabbed him and started pulling him downwards, why thank you, he thought, it would've taken a lot longer to swim down. He opened the box, making the squid drop him and reach for what came out of the box; bread. Sirius swam around the floor looking for something familiar, then he saw a guarded building and of course thought, it's in there where there are guards because the squid is just too easy. He swam over and realised it wasn't a building, it was people, people tied up the ropes were attatched to a metal ring in the ground. It was surrounded by grindilows. Sirius thought for a minute before making the sand a few meters away swirl like a tornado, the grindilows scattered, thinking it was some creature coming to attack them (because they aren't smart and I'm running out of ideas) Sirius swam closer and saw three people, the Delacour girl, Dorcas and... REMUS!? Please be alive, please be alive, Sirius checked his pulse, alive. What about the others? He looked behind him to see Marlene looking around, lumos, he flashed the light around and when he was sure Marlene had seen, he pointed his wand at the ropes tying Remus down, diffindo, the ropes fell away. He put Remus' arm over his shoulder so it'd be easier to get him up to the surface, he was about to propel himself to the surface when a grindilow grabbed his leg, he kicked it off but now there was a gash down the back of his leg. I'll deal with that later, he thought as he propelled himself to the surface. The sharp cold air, filled his lungs, he saw Remus wake up next to him, people were cheering. Remus looked like he was barely staying above water, Sirius put his arm around Remus' waist helping him stay up. Remus - who had no clue what just happened - jumped when he saw Sirius next to him, "Are you ok?" asked Sirius, helping Remu to the side, Remus nodded "I think so. What happened?" Remus climbed out onto the side shortly followed by Sirius,
"This was the second task." replied Sirius, wait I'm the something dear? thought Remus, I mean Dorcas was probably Marlenes and I don't even know the Durmstrang champion. Madame Pomfrey wrapped them both in towels before noticing Sirius' leg and healing that with a flick of her wand. Remus was shivering so much he was very close to falling off his chair, Sirius wrapped his own towel and arm around Remus as James Lily and Regulus came over to see if they were alright and to congratulate Sirius "Sirius says hi." James said to Remus, laughing.

A moment later, Marlene and Dorcas got to the surface, Sirius went over to go help them out (before James and Madame Pomfrey sat him down with another towel - which Remus was slightly disappointed about, he liked Sirius' arm around him). Before anyone could put a towel on either of them Dorcas kissed Marlene and there was another cheer. When everyone had settled down and waited for the Durmstrang champion to come up Marlene said to Sirius "I told her I liked her last night then McGonagall took her," that actually makes sense "I've done it, your go now."
"Sorry my go?" asked Sirius
"Yes your go you need to ask him!"
"I can't."
"Why not?"
"I don't wanna ruin our friendship!"
"I did it and it went great."
"What if he doesn't like me back?"
"I'm sure he will."
"But-"
"Ask him."
"I-"
"Do it."
"h-"
"Now! go on!"
Sirius sighed before going over to Remus. Unfortunately, the platform they were on was very slippery. Sirius fell back into the lake "SIRIUS!?" Remus rushed to the side and looked in "Sirius are you ok? Please come up!" it was a moment before Sirius (who climbed out the othere side and was standing behind Remus) cleared his throat, Remus spun round "WHY THE HELL DID YOU DO THAT!" he yelled,
"Sorry," laughed Sirius,
"It's not funny!" said Remus, trying not to join in with Sirius' infectious laugh,
"You're right I'm sorry." replied Sirius trying to keep a straight face (but he couldn't because you know...). Getting a sudden thought, Remus went up to Sirius and shoved him into the lake. Sirius resurfaced, laughing his head off, "Aren't you going to help me out?" asked Sirius
"You'll just pull me in." Remus laughed at Sirius' attempt at the oldest trick in the book.
"Worth a shot." sniggered Sirius climbing out and going to sit back down next to Marlene.
"You did that on purpose." she whispered as Remus sat down next to him,
"You can't prove anything." smirked Sirius.

It wasn't much longer until the Durmstrang champion got out, but Remus was good at falling asleep so he'd fallen asleep on Sirius' shoulder and when Sirius tried to wake him up when they had to go back Remus pretended to be asleep for a while because he actually found Sirius very comfortable. When they got back to the Gryffindor dorm, there wasn't a party this time because the champions (and hostages) - unlike last time when they were high on adrenaline - were really tired and fell asleep on the first sofa they got to. Sirius woke up at around 3am drenched in cold sweat and shaking. He had had a dream that his mother was torturing Regulus, he tried intervening but he couldn't move. He tried to get up to go see if Regulus was ok but he couldn't move, was he still dreaming? He looked down to see Remus laying across him, he carefully moved him before climbing out the window to check on Regulus (who was asleep and perfectly fine). He got back to the common room but couldn't sleep the rest of the night. He had dreams like that a lot but that one seemed too real.
