Near the end of the holidays, Regulus, Sirius, Marlene, Lily, James, Remus and Dorcas were sitting around in the three broomsticks trying to intrepret the clue the chicken had given them (still don't know why chicken came to mind). "We will take what's dear to you and guard it with the oldest thing around, an hour you'll have to fight this beast before the clock runs out and what we took will become part of the grounds." recited Remus, again,
"Maybe they'll take James," suggested Sirius "he's very deer to me." James laughed but Remus was more focused on keeping Sirius alive - and the rest of them didn't get it.
"No one else has a James though and Marlene got the same clue." replied Remus "What's the 'oldest thing around' then?"
"Dumbledore?" suggested James,
"No Dumbledores not a beast." said Lily
"Depends how you mean beast." said Sirius (who else would say that)
"Yeah Dumbledores no beast," smirked Marlene "it's obviously McGonagall."
"Yeah she is savage." agreed Dorcas(You gotta admit she is).
"Guys this is serious!" Remus tried to keep them all on track but he just dug himself into a hole
"This isn't Sirius I am." said Sirius, right as James said "Why is everything about him?" and Regulus said "I already know Sirius you don't have to introduce him again."
They all laughed - even Remus.
"SQUID!" yelled Dorcas. There was an awkward silence.
"Come again?" said Marlene
"Of course." said Lily "The giant Squid's been here for ages!"
"YES!" yelled Remus "The ghosts said that it was there when they went to school here!"
Sirius James and Marlene exchanged a look which clearly said Why are we all in love with genius' that don't like us back? (They were wrong of course).
"I play quidditch." said James randomly trying to impress Lily
"I'm good with secrets." joined in Marlene
"Mycousinhasatwoyearold." said Sirius not really getting the point (sadly that one thing would change the rest of their lives) "And I am good with secrets and can play quidditch. I also have no clue what we're doing here."
"Ok..." said Remus, slightly concerned for these people "Moving on. So far we think you're going to have to fight the squid."
"What's the something dear?" asked Regulus who kinda wished he was elsewhere "An item?"
"Like a keepsake?" asked James
"Yeah." replied Reg
"Hold on can you two swim?" asked Lily, Marlene and Sirius nodded.
"Yeah you're gonna need to swim to fight the squid." added Dorcas
"I think we should be asking how they'll hold their breathe for an hour." said James
"I think we should be asking how they'll fight a giant squid." replied Remus.

They spent a while discussing it and Sirius and Marlene decided it wouldn't be fair if they told each other how they would do it so they kept it to themselves. They spent the rest of the day in hogsmede, not much happened. Remus spent an hour in honeydukes, Marlene and Dorcas disappeared for ten minutes, Sirius got into a fight with a Beauxbaton boy because he said "Quoi avec son visage?" aimed at Remus (what's with his face) and there was a lot of "chienne" and "cheveux stupides", James tried asking out Lily again (and failed because he made a big thing of it).

"Why did you say your cousin had a two year old?" asked Remus, randomly
Don't say something dumb, "Because I think you should meet her," nice, nothing can go wrong now "her name's Nymphadora, Andys kid of course, Bella isn't the type for kids and Cissi hasn't found anyone."
"Right." said Remus, not really following, he was slightly distracted by Sirius' hair... and his eyes... and his face... and that leather jacket... and- oh shut up not the time!
"I wish I had siblings." said Remus, it was true, he'd feel less alone
"Trust me you don't," laughed Sirius "Regulus can be a real pain." literally
"But at the end of the day," Remus gave a dramatic sigh "he's your pain." Sirius laughed at how little Remus realised this was true, if Regulus didn't exist he'd have less of a reason to get himself hurt, but he loved Regulus, all he wanted was to get Regulus away from his parents and to somewhere safe. Hold on am I staring? Sirius' yees drifted to Remus as he got caught up in his thoughts, (who'd blame him).
"Is it snowing?" asked Remus,
"Merlins beard Sherlock's done it again ladies and gentlemen!" started Sirius "There is nothing that can stop him now! He's on a roll!"
"Oh shut u- hold on you read those muggle books I recommended?" asked Remus
"He can't stop figuring things out! We are in the presence of a genius!" Sirius was having way too much fun " 'Course I did."
"HEY LOVEBIRDS!" yelled James, the two of them turned round "HA! You looked you know it!" they both went red but it didn't last long as James started throwing enchanted snowballs at Sirius, who quickly retaliated and then it became a full on snowball fight.

this was kinda short I might write another one today, work is boring but my english teacher looks like GoF harry potter with his lockdown hair which is fun (last year we were going to curse someone but lockdown said no <3) he is the best teacher
