failed flight

"I feel like flying." said James
"Same." said Sirius, it was a nice day but everyone was laying around in the Gryffindor common room, "Hey why don't we grab some brooms and take a quaffle and a bludger or two and take a few laps around the pitch."
"Sure." said James, getting up, "Coming Remus?"
"I can't fly." replied Remus "I'll watch though."
"We can teach you if you want?" offered Sirius
"Uhh." started Remus "Nah I'm good." he gave a sarcastic sort of smile, Sirius shrugged, getting up and following James out to the pitch. They were soon joined by Marlene and a few other Gryffindors.

After flying around a bit Sirius saw Remus watching them, well actually he was reading but you know, he flew over to Remus with a spare broom. "Want to join us?" he asked, Remus jumped
"Wha- uuuh- agh!?!?!!?" said Remus (I'm not sure if it's a word so I'm not sure if he said it or did it I don't know) "Oh hi."
"Hi," replied Sirius "sooo... join?" Sirius offered him the broom,
"Um I'm good." replied Remus
"Come on."
"Nah."
"Please?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because."
"Because?"
"I can't fly!"
"I can teach you!"
"I-"
"Yes?"
"I- I'm scared of heights..."
"Oh right. Well if you don't try it you won't get over your fears." Sirius left the spare broom by Remus and flew over to where James was.
"Oh screw it he's right." sighed Remus, he mounted the broom - trying not to remember how he broke his leg the first time he flew even though he was barely off the ground - and kicked off. He tried his best to not look down, he felt very ill. "Are you ok Remus?" Sirius asked when he saw a very pale Remus attempting to fly with his eyes closed,
"Not really." replied Remus "I dispise heights."
"I'm so sorry I shouldn't ha-" started Sirius
"No just no." Remus cut him off "I'm here now might as well do something." it was then that Remus spotted a bludger coming towards them, that's when his instincts kicked in: freeze, fight or flight.
He picked flight. He sort of tackled Sirius out of the way - who didn't see the bludger - and the next thing he knew was they were both falling with one broom between them. Remus then realised his mistake "Sorry." he said "I should've just told you it was coming instead of tackling you." it was then when he realised he'd grabbed onto Sirius who had grabbed the broom,
"Quit apolgising and get on the damn broom!" replied Sirius, Remus scrambled trying to get onto the broom as Sirius attempted getting on too, well this is the most awkward position I've ever been in, thought Sirius, the two of them were tangled in a way neither of them thought possible. They'd both just about got on the broom in time for Sirius to slow them down - well slow them down enough so they wouldn't die - before they crash landed. Of course, Remus had landed on top of Sirius who had landed on his back, they just stared at each other awkwardly before Sirius said "You're- You're crushing my spleen." why did you say that now he's going to get off!
"I don't even know where your spleen is." replied Remus, rolling off
"Neither do I actually." added Sirius "Thanks for the help Prongs!" he yelled
"Uh Pads?"
"Yeah?"
"You're bleeding."
"Oh yeah."
"Like a lot."
"Oh."
James landed next to them "Ok Sirius you're going to the hospital wing."
"Is there any point fighting this?" asked Sirius, James shook his head
"I'm sorry Sirius I shouldn't ha-"
"No just no." replied Sirius "Don't apologise it wasn't your fault and you know it, anyway I'm fine and no I'm not going to abandon you."
"That's never going away is it?" asked Remus
"Never."
Remus had once asked Sirius if he was going to abandon him for some dumb reason and they laugh about it now.

A few days later, they'd completely forgotten about the failed attempt at flying and were now sitting around in the common room. "Anyone want a riddle?" asked Remus
"Sure." said James
"What begins and ends with an E but only has one letter?" asked Remus
"E!" yelled Sirius
"Do you know what a riddle is?" laughed Remus
"No I do not." replied Sirius
"It's a question," started Remus "a hard question, I- I don't really know." they were all laughing now
"A question that the answer makes sense but you wouldn't expect it?" suggested James
"ThEn HoW aM i MeAnT tO gEt It!?" asked Sirius
"That's the whole point!" Remus almost fell off his chair for laughing so much
"What's the answer then?" asked James
"An envelope!"
There was a general "ooooh" of realization. The three of them stayed up talking most of the night, if only it could stay like this forever.
