Raziel's POV

"Cause we are living in a material world and I am a material girl. You know that we are living..." Kai's voice startles me awake. I try sitting up but quickly give up on that thought as every bone in my body cries out in protest at the slightest movement. I sigh. I guess my body needs more time to heal.

I glance around and notice I'm in some sort of crater which seems to have resulted from my crash landing to earth. I close my eyes and listen to Kai singing. He actually sings really well and his voice is a good distraction from the pain.

I wonder how far away I am from him. His voice is just as loud as when I heard it in heaven, just more present. In heaven I can only hear him this clearly when he's talking to my star. Once my body heals I'll go find him even if it's just to satisfy my curiosity. He intrigues me and from what he told my star he seems generous; this human could be of help to me.

Sleep beckons to my pained, broken body and I am engulfed by darkness as I drift out of consciousness.

My eyes shoot open at the sound of Kai screaming in pain. I sit up and stretch, grunting as I rearrange some of my bones that broke in the fall, popping them back into place.

I hear a low rumbling noise and I shoot to my feet assuming a defensive position. I hear it again and I look down at my stomach. Why is it making that noise? Why does it feel so empty? Is this what humans call hunger? I straighten up, focusing on Kai's voice. It sounds like he's in pain. I close my eyes, listening to his voice for a few seconds so that I can gauge his location and start running in his direction.

I wish I had my wings! Running is tedious when all I would have to do is flap my wings and I'd be transported next to him. I'm also going to need food, sleep and to shower to keep my body fresh, none of which I would need if I still had my wings!

Most angels who are banished die within the first few days of falling because they are unable to find humans who will help them. And yet God thinks I should value human life.

The loss of our wings makes us vulnerable. We still can't get diseases or be pierced by ordinary blades but we can die of hunger, dehydration, sleep deprivation and prolonged exposure to the elements. After we fall, we have 48 hours until our bodies become susceptible to the elements. Such is the damnation of fallen angels.

I run across the earth at the speed of sound, not even having time to see how earth has changed since I last visited 1,000 years ago.

Luckily we don't lose our other abilities when we fall. "Pink star, help me," Kai whispers. I speed up. Just a few more miles. I zip through the streets and finally skid to a halt in front of Kai. At least I think it's Kai since this is where his voice was coming from and he's the only person lying here unconscious but I'd have to hear his voice to confirm.

I look down at the small, very pale boy lying on the pavement. One side of his light pink hair is soaked in blood. I squat next to his body to get a closer look. His foot looks broken and so do several of his ribs and his breathing sounds shallow and strained.

I gently flip him onto his back and he whimpers in his unconscious state at the movement. I place one hand in the middle of his chest and the other on his leg, focusing on his injuries. My palms glow light pink, almost the same colour as his hair, I muse, as my hands heal him.

I cock my head to the side listening to the movement I hear behind me but ignore it, knowing that the spying human can't see me and I sense no danger from them.
