Chapter 51 - Raziel's Wings

ani_dn found this lovely photo a while ago and said that it made them think of Raziel, and I think it nicely matches the vibe of this chapter!

Kai's POV

Raziel listens to me talk about my mother for what seems like hours. Throughout all the memories I share with him, he and Snow Cone both listen and comfort me in their own ways. By the time I'm finished talking, I feel much lighter and happier.

We're still settled next to the pond in Raziel's room, and the calming sound of the waterfall fills the air. Snow Cone is curled up on my chest while I'm laying on my back with my head resting on Raziel's lap.

"Raz, doesn't the sun set here?" I ask after a moment of comfortable silence. The skies have been brightly lit since we came here with no indication of them darkening.

"It doesn't, but my quarters will make itself dark when you need to sleep."

"You don't need to sleep anymore?"

He shakes his head as his fingers gently run through my hair. "Not like before. Now that I have my wings back, there are a few changes to my body and abilities, and my sleeping pattern is one of them. I only need to sleep seven hours a week. It can be all at once or broken up."

"What will you do while I sleep?"

He smiles. "If you want, I can stay and cuddle with you all night. I think I'll like that. But the other option is that I can schedule some of my duties in Heaven for when you're sleeping and be back by the time you wake up in the morning."

I consider that for a moment. If he does some of his duties at night, then I get to spend more waking hours with him, but on the other hand, I sometimes wake up during the night and I'll miss cuddling with him until I fall back asleep. I sigh. "Doing your duties at night makes more sense."

"I will only leave after you fall asleep and I'll be back in the morning before you wake up. You can always contact me and I'll be next to you in seconds," he smiles and presses a kiss to my lips before continuing to run his fingers through my hair, "and Snow Cone can give you cuddles when I'm gone."

My loud squeal startles Snow Cone and they glance around. I pick up the cat-like creature and bring them towards my mouth so I can place multiple kisses on their face. They purr and brush their face against mine causing me to giggle. "Did you hear that, Snow Cone? You get to come back to earth with me!"

"What about my kisses?" Raziel mumbles with a pout, and I giggle harder, making a kissy face. That brings a smile to his face and he connects our lips in a brief kiss.

Snow Cone once again curls up on my chest and Raziel's hand returns to my hair. After a few seconds, I ask, "What other changes are there?"

"I won't feel Earth's temperature anymore. I don't need showers anymore or-"

"So how will you stay clean? What if I spilled chilli on you or something?"

Raziel grins. "Then my clothes and body would automatically clean itself within a few minutes. So if you spilled something on me, it would be gone."

My mouth hangs open, and my eyebrows knit together for a moment before a tiny giggle escapes me. I dig my hand into the moist dirt near the pond and quickly smear it all over Raziel's bare chest.

Raziel laughs and rolls his eyes but makes no attempt to stop me. My eyes widen as moments later the dirt seems to evaporate from his chest, leaving his chiseled chest perfectly clean.
