Here's a picture of Kai's dinner ^^
I wanted to give some background on Milan so this chapter starts after Kai finishes volunteering shift but before he goes home and finds Raziel still standing in the driveway.
Kai's POV
"That was a long shift!" Milan says as she stretches her hands above her head. I nod in agreement suppressing a yawn. "Do you want to grab some food?"
"Yeah, sure! I should pay you back for eating more than half of your sandwich!" I reply slightly embarrassed.
I didn't eat anything at all before coming here and Milan was kind enough to offer me half of her sandwich. Then gave me half of the one she was eating since I wolfed down the first half.
Milan scoffs. "Or do you want to go back to your boyfriend?" She says with a smirk and sticks out her tongue.
"Not my boyfriend and no I'm not in a hurry to get back because I'm dreading our conversation," I whine.
"You seem way too convinced that he won't want to date you but you never know," Milan says with a shrug before she smirks and adds, "or you could just kiss him and deal with the consequences later."
"Won't kissing him out of the blue just make it worse?"
"Maybe but it could also put things in perspective for him," she replies with a wink.
I groan. Why did I think it was a good idea to blackmail Raziel into kissing me? Thinking about how Raziel and I will move forward now is giving me a headache! "Uuughh let's just talk about you instead," I say pouting.
Milan giggles and shrugs as if asking what do you want to know.
"Why did you move here?" I question. "Oh wait! Let's talk at the restaurant, you can follow my car."
Once we arrive at the restaurant and Milan and I settle into the booth, Milan initiates conversation. "I think your question was why I moved." I hum a response and she continues, "My parents are divorced so I used to live with my mom. Then she got a new boyfriend and step son so I moved here to live with my dad."
"Did you feel out of place after the boyfriend and step son came into the picture?" I only asked because she seemed bitter when responding.
"My mom always wanted a boy," Milan sighs and looks down at the menu on the table in front of her but not seeming to see it. "So this is like the perfect family for her. The final straw was when I overheard her boyfriend saying that I was messing up his perfect family and my mom agreed with him."
Milan has tears glistening in her eyes so I slide around the booth until I'm next to her and cautiously wrap my arms around her in a hug. That's when she starts full on sobbing. Luckily the restaurant is fairly empty and we are in a booth at the back.
"I'm sorry," Milan sniffles, pulling away and wiping her face with the extra napkins the server snuck here while Milan was crying.
"Why are you apologizing! I spent our whole three hour shift whining! I should be the one apologizing for talking your ear off!" I respond as I slide back over to the seat opposite her.
"That was the first time I talked about it aloud. My father doesn't really care. We were never close so he never actually bothered to ask why I moved and I had a falling out with my two best friends before moving here," Milan explains, blushing near the end or her short monologue.
"Like you told me earlier, I'm here if you want to talk." I smile reassuringly at Milan and she smiles back. The waiter returns to take our orders and we decide to have some loaded nachos. Not being able to curb my curiosity any longer, I ask, "so, falling out?"
