At the end of Chapter 5:  Sanem could feel her face become flushed and her breathing quicken. Turning her head away, she chirped, "Can, don't say anything you might be sorry for later." she chirped. Can looked at her intently, "What makes you think I would be sorry for anything like that? Don't you want it too? I can't seem to think about anything else. Just you and me together. That's all I need for the rest of my life." "Are you sure, Can? Are you positive beyond a doubt?" Can answered, "Sanem Aydin. This is the only thing I've ever been sure of in my life. Yes, beyond any doubt in my mind. Yes, and positive of it in my heart!"

Sanem gave him a slight smile and looked away. "Can, what brought this on? Did Polen bring this on? Do you think I need a proposal to get rid of the doubt I have about her? Please, don't think that."

Can looked confused, took her hand and said, "Sanem, my love, my only love. I want to be with you always. Day and night. I hate to bring you home every night because it kills me to let you go. So, no. This is not brought on by Polen. She is not in my mind at all. It's just you and only you."

Sanem could see the seriousness of his words on Can's face. "Maybe he does want this", she thought to herself. She had dreamed of nothing else since they had declared their love for one another, but had never felt worthy of the Divit name. Her mind was her own worst enemy and she knew she had to relieve herself of these thoughts. She loved Can with her whole heart and soul and had nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, she had to acknowledge that she had developed into quite a successful woman. And a woman full of hope for her future. She had a lot to offer and longed to give it all to the man she loved.

She touched Can's face, caressing and stroking his beard. She smiled and whispered, "Can, being with you for the rest of my life sounds like a dream to me, but you know our traditions. Are you willing to follow the steps my parents will require?"

His eyes darkened and the desire she saw in his eyes almost smothered her. In a low and raspy voice, he said, "There's nothing, absolutely nothing in this world that I wouldn't do for you, Sanem, just to make you mine completely and wholly. I am more than willing, so just get ready." He gently kissed her lips but lingered there for an extra second, just to take in the beautiful fragrance that always surrounded her.

Sanem melted, completely in awe of the effect this man had on her. Her heart was jumping for joy but she had to stay in control.

Can opened his eyes and looked deeply into hers. "So, we have an agreement then. No backing out. I will handle everything and do it all by the book, don't worry. But what if your baba doesn't give me your hand? What will happen then?" Then he laughed. "Oh, I know. We'll run away together and hide somewhere secluded and romantic."

Sanem felt immediately filled with fear and her eyes got big and were full of tears. "Do you think that will happen?" Sometimes she was so gullible sometimes that it made Can laugh but he quickly shook his head. "No, Sanem, I am joking. I don't think that will happen. My relationship with your parents is good. You'll see. Everything will be fine."

Can took her in his arms, helping her let go of all the negatives in her mind. They finally said goodbye and parted. When Sanem entered her house, all kinds of thoughts swirled around in her head. "I wonder when he plans to talk to Baba? He will probably want it to be a surprise. Oh, my God, I can't believe it's really going to happen."

She had been so excited she forgot to talk to Can about the possible speaking engagements and promotional events for her new book book. She would be sure to take the time tomorrow to let him know what was going on. Her mind was still filled with Can as she got ready for bed, and she was sure she would not be able to sleep at all.

Can's excitement had made him nervous, just knowing what was about to be. He poured a drink and sat out by the pool. The first thing he would do would be to look for a ring. It had to be special. Simple yet different. Beautiful and original, just like Sanem. Finding the time to look for a special ring would be the problem. He knew Sanem would be suspicious if he was sneaking around.

He was so deep in thought that he did not notice Emre walk outside from the kitchen. "Brother, I didn't hear you come in," said Emre. "How long have you been home?"

Can jerked around, startled to see his brother. "What are you doing up at this time of the night. Is everything okay?"

Emre nodded and said he was just having trouble sleeping. He could see Can was deep in thought. He wondered if the involvement of Polen with the potential clients for the Agency had anything to do with it. It bothered him to see Can and Sanem put through so much in their life. Still worried about his brother, Emre asked Can, "Is everything ok with you? You seem very deep in thought."

Can smiled. "It's better than okay. It's fantastic. Sanem and I have decided to join our lives together, with her parents blessing, of course. I think it's time for us to get married."

Emre laughed, happy for the couple. More than anything though, he was relieved that they had not let Polen disrupt their lives. The brothers hugged and it felt so good to Emre to see Can happy. He asked about the engagement ritual and when he planned to talk to Nihat. Emre knew how strict Sanem's parents were about their traditions. Can said he would be talking to Nihat soon, very soon. He asked Emre to have Leila keep it a secret from their parents. He wanted to do everything right so they would not be offended.

Sanem wanted desperately to go to sleep because her dreams of Can always made her feel so warm and desired. As she drifted into sleep, she recalled his words of "I want to be with you always." Her hopes of having a happy dream that night turned into a nightmare later. She thrashed about in the bed frantically calling Can's name.

In the nightmare, she saw Polen hanging onto Can's arm and laughing. Sanem begged Can to make her stop but he was laughing too. Then he and Polen turned around and walked away together, arm and arm. Yelling and crying, Sanem tried to run after them but her legs were stuck, frozen and unable to move. Then they were gone.

Sanem sat up in bed, crying and unable to catch her breath. Ah, Sanem, ah. What are you doing? You're letting that woman destroy you and the only love you'll ever know. She laid back in her bed, breathless. It had seemed so real. Did it mean something? She shook her head "No." She would not let it mean something. She was worthy. She was a writer, a published and accomplished writer, and Can loved her. She told herself to get all the other thoughts out of her mind. She didn't need all this negativity. Their love would be enough.

Not wanting to close her eyes again, she prayed for the morning to come soon. She needed to see Can.
